Radames

"Watch your step, darling." A deep voice fell from dark lips as his pale gaze extended down to find the Doberman in his sights. Radames stepped across the snow laden ground with Blue at his side. Occasionally her tail would beat against his legs in excitement and he could do nothing but grin. Another year had come and gone...another year since the trial of exiling he had survived. It had been a changing point in his life and while it had been less than ideal, he had no one to blame for the circumstances than himself. "It's been a good year, hasn't it?" Radames mused aloud getting a small yip from Blue in exchange of his words.

It did not take long for the massive pyre to come into view, smoke curling upwards into the sky as embers danced in the air. Despite the warmth it gave off there was nothing that could melt the cold that stretched around them. Steeling himself and tugging his cloak tighter around his neck, Radames stepped onto the ice. He halted, unsure of how to proceed. He did not fear it breaking beneath him, but rather feared making a fool of himself by falling on his butt. Blue did not have the same worries and immediately took off, sliding this way and that as she bound off in excitement.

Radames chuckled, shaking his head lightly and turning his pale gaze back toward the pyre. Shadows danced across the ice as the light cast across the many who had come to the Flame Feiring. Ra himself was not too big on the dancing and was more content to stand at the edge and watch the others enjoy themselves. Blue was nowhere to be seen but he knew she knew how to behave herself. Radames sighed contentedly, deciding he would remain a few more moments before he set off in search of a drink.

ooc: open! and forgive the icky post, i need time to get used to him <3

The world above, filled with warm reds and oranges as flame danced above the ice, was a light with life. Beings big and small alike joining together in a holiday beloved by many. They danced and drank, letting the warmth that had been sucked out of the world by Fenrir's winter fill them. Not in their bones, no, the cold still bit at their skin like angry dogs, but in their soul they were filled with a sense of warmth in those around them. Granted, the alcohol may also be the reason, but whose to say? Most would prefer to just believe in the beautiful lie. Alas, the warmth that spread through the crowds above left an even colder chill in the water below. From under the thick ice, a small blurry shadow circled. It wasn't malicious in it's intents, but seemed to be looking for something as it darted through the water. It paused as a small shape raced across the ice towards the party. There were no sounds of hooves beating the surface so who knows what that fast surface thing was. Looking farther out, a bigger shape that walked slower across the slick surface.

It started to swim towards the stranger on ice. Perhaps this one would take notice of her trapped in the frigid water where as the rest were too preoccupied to look down. Maybe it would be a more common thing should there be others that lived in the water as she did, but it seemed that it was only her. The fish like being circled under the land dweller as he approached the rest of the group, hoping he'd see her. Turning herself upside down, she stamped her two hooves against the ice below him, large chocolate eyes staring up, desperate for attention. All of these people and not one to talk to, it was her own personal hell and she just wanted to be seen. "Hallo! Hallo freunde!" She called out in the water, but whether it carried through the ice to him was debatable, especially with the commotion going on.

Radames

Radames dropped his gaze to a shadow that seemed to swirl around below him just beneath the surface of the ice. At first he thought it nothing more than a trick of the light or perhaps someone was showing off their arcana. Thinking nothing of it he returned his sight to the scene before him. Blue had disappeared into the crowd and he could only imagine she was begging some stranger for attention. Worst came to worst, he would need to go collect her but for the moment with no one shouting about some wild beast he knew she was fine. The smell of alcohol stung his nostrils and a smirk curled at the corner of his dark lips. At some point he'd need a drink but getting absolutely pissed the moment he arrived was probably not in his best interest. This was a time when the banners of houses were ignored and all were free to mingle. He had not glimpsed sight of his family in years...perhaps one of them was among the crowd. Radames was unsure if this was a good or a bad thing, and decided he would worry about it only if it proved to be true.

The sound of a heavy clunk against the ice caused him to start from his thoughts, his eyes widening slowly as he dipped his head downward toward the sound. A heavy puff of breath fell from his quivering nostrils and his brow furrowed. "Hallo! Hallo freunde!" The sound barely reached him, but it was undoubtedly a voice. He lowered his head toward the shadow, a mere millimeters from the thick ice. "Hello," his voice was rough though not unkind, eyes trained on the creature lurking beneath the surface of the ice. Though Radames himself was not exceedingly tall, the hippocampus was even smaller. Though the long tail he could see moving through the waters made her appear somewhat bigger.

"Come to enjoy the party?" He questioned the ice, looking like a loon. If anyone were to have seen him it may have seemed as if he was already drunk and talking to his own shadow. He tilted his head, the long locks of his forelock falling over one eye. His leonine tail curled up across his back to avoid it touching the cold of the ice.

He hadn't seemed to take note of her at first until she stamped the ice and he finally realized there was a being stuck below him. He lowered his head down to her, his face becoming clear as he practically pressed it to the ice in order to see her in the dark abyss of the water, hazed over with a layer of freeze. She was surprised to see a dark bay face staring down at her considering he looked like a hazy white figure at first. It didn't matter though and she was just happy he was listening. Her face lit up with joy and relief as she wiggled closer tot he ice like an excited puppy. The sounds of the party almost drowned out his voice, but she could distinguish something about a party. She tilted her head back to the look at the strange light that seeped through the water and the collection of people. Turning her split colored head back to him, she paused in silence, trying to translate the words in her head. "Ja, ja! Das, uh... Yes, party, party!" She looked around her at the crushing depth and the ice that separated her from the rest of the world. She couldn't get it to budge, let alone break, but he looked bigger than she was. Granted, most were bigger than her, not that it bothered her at all. She gently bonked her head against the ice. "The ice!" she yelled again before pushing away from the very thing that divided them. She darted away towards the group again and then came back, circling below him before knocking on the ice again.

The crowd erupted in a drunken cheer over something. Music, dancing, something. And boy did she want to know what. There was so much joy hanging in front of her just out of reach. She halted and just started at the shadows longingly, a soft whimper as she tried to imagine what she was missing. Turning herself back over, she banged her hooves against it again, hardly even chipping it. Despite what they say, the caged bird does no sing, it screams. "Ice!" She called again.

Radames

As Poppy banged her forehead against the ice, Radames ears flitted back. That couldn't possibly be pain free, though he supposed it wasn't his place to care whether or not she gave herself a concussion. The corners of his lips tugged downward as a trademark scowl placed itself across his face. He furrowed his brow as she swam away, for a moment thinking she had perhaps been distracted by something else. Radames had to admit he knew of Hippocampi, though he was not well versed in them. He'd met a few, including one fence he'd used to do business with. The sneaky angler fish had used the underwater mazes to move goods. He knew that fish, actual fish, had short term memories-- was it the case here? Before he had even a moment to ponder on this thought she had returned, throwing herself against the ice again.

Radames raised his head, his frown growing as he watched her shadow undulating beneath the ice. It was clear that she wanted to be out here with everyone else. He was not fool enough to start driving his hooves into the ground and mess up the event for everyone else. She wasn't seeming to do much damage though with enough time she could probably get through.

He turned his head toward some of the crowds, debating whether or not this was his problem or not. It wasn't, he decided. "Ice!" However she called again and he couldn't help a sigh falling from his lips as he turned his gaze back down toward her. Dropping his head and finding her in his pale sights he spoke again, "Follow." His voice was rough and he began to move across the ice, deliberating making his footfalls loud so she would easily be able to follow the vibrations.

A few youngsters were gathered not too far off, peering down into a hole in the ice and bickering about the fish. "They're not hibernating," Radames cut in, fixing them with a strong stare. "The cold slows them down but they're in there." Seeing his expression the few of them scurried off leaving Radames standing at the edge of the water. He dropped the til of his tail into the water to catch her attention and the chill that immediately worked it's way up his tail and down his spine told him he would regret this decision later.

She watched him upon her return, a glimpse of dread filling her as she began to think that he didn't understand, or perhaps didn't care. It wasn't until she called back at him again about the ice that he seemed to sway in her favor, the distorted sound of his voice through the ice instructing her to follow. She turned back right side up, face pointed up towards the world bustling above her as she followed the melodic thump of his hooves that didn't seem to quite match up with the buzz of music that rumbled the water around her. This takes 'don't tap the glass' to a whole new level. Not that Poppy knew that phrase, but she sure knew the meaning in this moment. While it was disorienting yes, it only drew up closer to the crowds, surely it was far more enjoyable above the surface with 'Das Laufs'.

She followed his shadow to a hole where much smaller, even more so than her, shadows scurried away from his presence Perhaps he was intimidating to them, but she didn't realize they were young foals either, not sure what they were beyond shadows. However here she could join them, be one of them and see what the big fuss was about. The vague shadows of land walkers she'd encountered swam in the back of her mind. She was unable to grab hold of a single one, but something familiar did surface. They were always alone, at least she thinks they were. What would they be like in such a large cluster. Unlike her previous overly enthusiastic entrances though, she slowly bobbed the surface. Only the top half of her head visible above the water at first like an alligator, large eyes finally getting a clear image of her savior. His pale frame and bay head with a delicate blue fabric wrapped loosely around his neck, but with great care. The sound of the music once unsettling and distorted was now clear and full of life. Happiness over rode her nervousness and she rose higher out of the water, a clear smile painted onto her face with a strangely delicate ferocity. Each scale that adorned her fit neatly into place, giving way to every expression that erupted in her, bubbling to the surface.

The cold air that wafted off the ice around her stung her gills as her neck came higher into the world above sea level. The sting was worth the reward. "Danke mien Freund!" She chirped at him, her soft chocolate eyes only staying on him for a moment before turning to get her first clear glance at the party and it rough charm entranced her. Poppy looked around at the ice, drawing one leg out of the water first before pulling the second up. She wanted to be up there with them, not stuck down at their feet at the back of it all. Poppy had sprouted legs once, drawing her first real breath of air sans gills. Unfortunately, her mind had robbed her of such an ecstatic and ground breaking discovery leaving her once again trapped in a small, lonely world.

Her front hooves couldn't grip the ice, slipping back in not that she was able to get out much in the first place. Tucking them , pressing scale riddled knees into the ice, granting her more hold as she tried to hoist herself up, wriggling with stubborn determination. Slipping back in, she let out a huff, the fins around her head once taut, now loose and partially folded like a silky fabric. The strip of orange appearing to have similar move-ability to normal ears. Did she have ears? She had to, somewhere. Perhaps weird holes tucked into her head hidden in the same way owls did. That wasn't really a thought anyone wanted to linger on. A thought she hadn't considered before seeped into her brain and her desperate escape shifted into curiosity as she looked back up at where she thought Radames was, the question spilling out before even finding his figure. "Warum... Why is party? Poppy was always up for a party, the fluid, unbridled joy that often followed was intoxicating. But she didn't often ask why there was a party. What was this celebrating? Her speak was still sloppy in the tongue common to this land and she struggled to convey her thoughts, often constructing a crude mash up of simple words to describe something or merely opting for her language, many of the words sounds similar. Well... similar enough.
