Open illuminated | vromme herd meeting

#1
Bones moved through the common areas of Vromme with a delicate grace, though there was a strength to him as well. The bones he had shattered and cracked during his battle for the crown had been replaced. Though it was clear the coloring was slightly off, those bones were now his own. They would adjust eventually and become the same color as the rest of them over time. The land squelched beneath his pedal bones with each step and a trail of sand marked where he had been. The hour glass that hung from him clinked against his bones with each step. The orb that glistened within his cavernous skull seemed duller than usual as he pressed on to wherever he was going.

Finally the great beast stopped and swiveled his head all around, his gaze falling on everything in the plains. A rattling sigh, almost like a breath, fell from his quivering jaw. The haunting stare of gold began to grow more intense again and lit up his head in the growing darkness. Nightfall was falling upon them soon, though the stars and his eye gave enough light to see. As the clouds moved from the face of the moon the light fell upon him. His bones, near translucent, gleamed in the moonlight.

"Citizens of Vromme, hear me. Come to me." His voice was deep and echoed across the immediate area. He stood proudly, arching his long serpentine neck. Illuminated by the lights all around him, Bones was the image of ethereal as he awaited those would follow him. He wished to speak of his plans-- and theirs. Bones did not intend to rule the holdings with an iron hoof but rather as a collective of sorts. They all mattered to him. Vromme would flourish.

Nephthys was not amused.

Whisperings of a new Sovereign had been made know, and the brooding mare was in no mood for change. In fact, she couldn’t even remember the last time she had met a sovereign. To be fair, Neph couldn’t remember much of anything anymore.

Darkness engulfed the broad-framed mare in the land of Vromme. The only hint of her presence was the faint cyan glow that illuminated from her muscled frame. The night crickets chirped loudly through the plains whilst everything else slept except for the people of Vromme. A voice bustled through the quiet night air, and Nephthys groaned deep within her stomach. If there was anything she hated more than herself, it was the common life that she now led.

Legs pushed the mare forward in a lazy trot, and brief flashes of memories of Neph’s past life made her feel even more useless. Who would she come upon at this call of the Sovereign? Excitement coursed through her veins at the thought of someone she could make bets with, who didn’t know her, who she could manipulate. What would the night bring to her now?

Swiftly she made her way across the plains, and that was when the call of the new sovereign exposed the body that had made it. They were…nothing. Bones that shimmered in the moonlight, as if they were glass. He stood quietly surrounded by…sand? Neph slowed to a careful, slow trot. Her glowing eyes caught the sand falling from his ribcage, and she drank in the sight of his wonderfully defined bones.

Yes. Those would do nicely.

Nephthys sauntered to the illusive skeleton’s side, and caught his glowing holes with her side-eye. She kept a safe distance of the dead-looking thing, but was close enough to make out the details of his bones. They were…beautiful. Neph shook her neck, the tinkling of her macabre jewelry breaking the silence.

“Your b-bones are so…interesting,” she breathed almost hushed, “I would die for one of them.”

give me your hand in flesh, give me your hand in death

There had been little time to settle before the first meeting seemed to command her attendance. Days perhaps were spared for the heartbroken mare, mere days to scout out an appropriate place in the breadth of the southern realm. It was massive, encompassing, but empty. Trees were sparse, twisted, and reminders of the death that lay beneath bog surface. They were like grave markers, and she wondered if something - or someone - had to have fallen just below the shallow surface to provide life to the scraggly timbers here.

Death may deter others, but not LaLaurie. No... But do not be fooled. She is not a wicked sorceress spying her next ground marrow for a hex, nor does she seek the resting ossein of the fallen to resurrect new constructs. The thought was preposterous. Her relationship with the dead was far simpler, more intimate. Where there is death there are souls. And while LaLaurie could not presently see them (and do not believe her restless eyes have not searched and searched and searched for them these past several days) she knows that perhaps Vromme was the place to most easily ensure her... magic? Curse? Blessing? could be tested upon return.

But it is another sleepless night. While her inner conscious tells her that Jakob is here, so very near, she cannot bring herself to dream. LaLaurie finds no solace in sleep, but only terrible sweating fits and nightmares of memories she cannot repress. If only he was there, if only she could see him, perhaps then she could sleep. Even now, her long black lashes flutter open and she casts her bloodshot gaze into the sea of grasses. They undulate in the winds that sweep through the plains providing an illusion of quality fabric. The blades tickle her narrow belly and tug at the obsidian tresses of her tail but she does not find the desire to adjust in accommodation. She bears it, acknowledging her numb.

As her mind seeks to drift, to amble into the good memories, the quality times shared with her beloved, a call echoes across the expanse of the South. Immediately her hazel orbs widen with wakefulness, her harks prick forward, and her visage snaps in the direction the calling betrayed. Come to me. Long lashes caress the cool, autumnal atmosphere as she debates her choices. It would be quite a difficult start to deny her new sovereign her attendance upon the first meeting. The thick banner flicks with mild agitation - not at the skeletal creature summoning them but her restlessness - and her fatigued appendages drag her from the small thicket where she had tried to bed.

LaLaurie traipses through the shallows of the rivers, ponds, and the skirts of some bogs. She eyes the dead there, the life hidden beneath the surface in the form of fish and tadpole, but mostly the carcasses discarded from the loon, stork, and heron. Death. Death was everywhere. Even her eyes witness death in their king. His ghostly figure erects itself against the starlit night, as if birthed by the union of the midnight and mortal realm. But she does not approach at just a vicinity as most. One has already found her attendance, spying their king with keen interest. LaLaurie bids them a wide breadth. At the conclusion, she'd like ease of returning to her thicket, and wished for ease of sleep as well.

He’d somehow found himself here in the plains, the tall, golden grass circling their tips lightly against his black belly. In the distance, he could see the surface of the lake sprinkled with the light of the fading sun. Batu wasn’t sure why he was here, couldn’t even begin to say what had made him come here, save for his long, spindly legs carrying him to whatever suited it. He looked up, lifting his bleached skull towards the moon that now grew brighter and brighter as the sun dimmed. In the night, the two teal wisps centered in his eye sockets glowed brighter, casting lines of its light across the curves of his skull. It was a strange sight, a pair of glowing lights bobbing in the inky black of night, and almost eerily pretty for any unsuspecting animal that happened to be attracted to it. He stared ahead now, watching the night spread, and listening to the sounds of crickets emerging from where ever they’d been hiding. One by one, the stars twinkled into existence, their dim light speckling the night sky. Batu liked the night. The grasping cold, the soft swaying of the branches, and the gentle whispering of the wind that curled around him. It was soothing on his skin, and a good cover for him from both his next meal and from anyone who couldn’t help but stare at his strange appearance. He’d never admit it, but any attention from a stranger made him antsy. Even the tendrils housed inside him agreed.

Batu would have certainly gone about his business, shrouded in the night like a stalking predator, if his ears hadn’t picked up the call. Ah, now he had to find out what was going on, and who was going about talking. He tipped his head to one side, perked his left ear forward to listen, and all the while he walked towards the call. It was a strange sight, made only less strange by the fact that he too was half dead. The creature before him was made entirely out of bones, and colored with age. Curious like Batu, a pair of tendrils poked out, stretching forward and swaying up and down, as if sniffing the air was the closest thing to tasting the creature in front of them. More of the tendrils, hidden inside his body, wiggled about in curiosity. Batu himself stared as well. Both wisps in his sockets glowed brightly, his ears twisted forward and his jaws gaped slightly open. The other two was of little interest to both Batu and the tendrils. Perhaps he’d pay more attention to them later. For now, he was rather fascinated by what was going on, and the fact that he wasn’t the only strange undead thing here.

When Higurashi Kagura arrived at the grisly scene, one could not quite be certain what the priestess made of this very strange assemblage. She came from the direction of Grosugr, the river lands recently bequeathed to her by the sovereign whose call she now answered, and arrived at the meeting site at an easy ground-eating canter, lavender-tipped tresses whipping in the night air. In the darkness of night lit only by the veiled moon and stars, the priestess's violet and scarlet hues faded into near blackness, but even still she was easily the brightest and most colorful sight among the grey blankness of the plains. She made no scene or fuss and merely bowed low to Bones with a murmured "Good evening, Ou-sama", falling quiet and still as she waited to hear what he had to say. But her eerily golden eyes, gleaming almost unnaturally bright even in the pale moonlight, surveyed each attendee with an unreadable expression. One, a lady clad in black and ghostly blue, stood admiring the skeleton king as though enraptured. The other woman present, whom Kagura recognized as having also been present to witness the challenge, lingered behind almost reluctantly - and understandably so, for the final individual present posed just as gruesome a sight as their undead sovereign himself. Though perhaps none here knew it yet, all in attendance had very particular relationships with death and the mortal plane. The Vromme herd meeting had become a collection of very peculiar people, and all that remained was to see what Bones planned to do with them.

davaros arud

down the rivers of the windfall light

Wordlessly Davaros returned the summoning from their new sovereign. At the time of the challenge, he wouldn't have thought that a sack - well, being - of bones could have bested a massive creature like the opponent, but... here he was, idling through the sea of undulating grasses. Vromme had been his home his entire life but none of the faces that collected here today were familiar to him from times before. Sure, he knew Higurashi Kagura and, of course, of their sovereign, but none of them held familiar or friendly ties to him from a life he felt was so distant now.

Late in attendance due to the hour of the twilight meeting, Davaros edged himself into the back recesses of the mingling crowd. He offered an investigative glance towards the two strangers eyeing their new king from skull to hoof with only mild interest, before coming abreast his newest, and brightest here, friend. Out of courtesy he offered the lady a small nod, but released no word. It was time to fall silent, time to hear just why their king had called them from their beds. At the very thought, Davaros' muzzle ripped asunder with a yawn he could not stifle. Were the others as tired as he was? The two poking at the skeleton sure didn't seem fatigued by their day.... and Kagura, well... she seemed poised, composed, and tireless, and Davaros was beginning to speculate it was her eternal state. The woman at the back? He hadn't gotten a good look at her, but recognized her from the challenge audience. Of all, perhaps she seemed the most tired simply due to her recluse. Davaros couldn't blame her.

Finally satisfied with his survey, the kirin-esque male turned his attention to their summoner, beckoned and waiting.

Bones was pleased and growing more and more pleased each time another horse approached. They had heeded his call, at least respecting his position enough to listen to his call. Not that he had asked much of them yet. The first to arrive was a mare of shadows and night and gleaming eyes. She approached, drawing herself much closer than Bones wanted her and he instinctively lifted his head. Had his face born flesh he surely would have been sporting a disgruntled face instead of the blank expression he wore at all times. The stallion of otherworldly construct refused to be the one to create the space and instead he turned his attention on her, tilting his head so far to the left it was almost upside down. "Too closeeee." He hissed, his jaw rattling as his teeth clacked together from the force of his words. The golden orb within his skull seemed to narrow as if he was squinting before it turned toward an empty spot not too far away as he directed her away.

One he recognized was the second to arrive and Bones turned his attention toward LaLaurie. He watched curiously as she kept her distance. He did not comment on how far she strayed, in fact Bones was just happy anyone was arriving at all. The orb gleamed brightly, illuminating his entire skull in warm light. While Bones had been observing the two mares, another joined the fray. Like Bones they had a skull for a head though there was no flicker as he watched. Nothing indicated that Bones found them to be similar in the least. Bones may have been made of literal bone and magic, but he did not associate himself as something dead. Batu, however, looked dead to him. Like something a necromancer would raise from the earth.

The last two to arrive were more recognizable faces. Kagura. The first to ally herself to him and the first to gain from his position of power. The new Jarl greeted him and Bones raised his head in an almost proud stance at her use of ou-sama. The title was certainly growing on him. The last to arrive was a kirin with an interesting construct atop his head, though Bones did not have time to speculate. Instead he stepped forward, his pedal bones squelching through the swamp water soaked earth beneath him.

"Welcome," a deep pause as the orb moved through his skull, his gaze roving slowly over each of them. It was an unsettling feeling, perhaps, though was natural for Bones. "I am Bones, the new sovereign of this land. With the help of you, again it shall be grand. There are, of course, some demands." The skeleton craned his neck, extending his head closer to the group though still keeping his distance. "Respect. Allegiance. Honesty." He tilted his head again nearly upside down as a throaty laugh echoed from his cavernous head. "Do you understand?"

Without even waiting for their responses, he continued. "Do not fear coming to me. Ideas, issues-- come to me. Bones shall hear it all from the lips of thee. A collective-- a group of souls...a family." Bones straightened himself up again, rolling his gaze across them again. "Vromme," it fell from his lips like a pure. "Vrooooome."

ooc: bones translation-- if they respect him as sovereign he will do what he can for them and for vromme. he wants to lead as a 'collective' essentially as a family where all opinions can be heard no matter noble or commoner. he wants to see them as family. and basically just making sure everyone is listening and if they have any concerns before he continues.

give me your hand in flesh, give me your hand in death

LaLaurie had traditionally not been the girl who liked the back of the group, but at their new skeletal sovereign's disapproving hisses to those venturing far too close she considered her options far superior to the others. A ghost of a smirk painted her multi-colored lips, but it faded as quickly as it sputtered to life. Others milled in, getting the best view of their king that they could manage despite the thickening crowd. In all she was surprised. Familiar faces from the challenge skirted in last, but the others? They were all unknown to her. She couldn't have picked them from a lineup as her kin, nor did she believe some of them current members. But that was the best way to recruit, yes? Set your macabre image to the blinding moonlight and usher in a new era with rhymes and hymns. Perform enough and the clientele always followed.

Shifting, her legs stiff from the unsuccessful furls of sleep, LaLaurie listened attentively to the words of their bony sovereign. A family? All of them? Her hazel eyes flicked across those present, eyeing them all up and down not in the sense of judgement of appearance but assessment of character. Did they all find each other worthy to call themselves family? Curious still was the open door policy that Bones - a name LaLaurie physically had to physically strangle the laughter that threatened to rise - wished. A collective indeed... Her gaze slit, her brow darkening her already harrowed visage. What else did he have to say? He didn't seem finished just yet... the night was young, afterall.

Those that had come before and after him were of little interest to the strange equine. Instead, his attention was concentrated solely on the creature made only of bones. It was their call that Batu had caught and had responded as a result. Batu wasn’t rude as to disregard all of them though, and he acknowledged their presence with a tilt of his head, a perk of his ears and a near miss flicker in the teal wisps that made up his eyes. Admittedly, they weren’t excellent greetings to a small group of strangers, but it was amazing considering his lack in terms of social skills. Okay, at least give them a look. He huffed and turned his head to look at them, before finally settling his attention on the brightest one of the lot. Well, she was certainly colorful from her red and cream gradient to her purple mane and tail. Acutely aware of how dull his color was, Batu flicked his left ear back and to the side and pulled his gazed abruptly from her to the bony creature before them.

Both tendrils slurped their way back into his mouth and down his throat once Bones started speaking, leaving a small, and rather slimy, trail along the side of his lower jaw. Their curiosity having waned, and Batu’s own curiosity peaked by what had just spoken, the tendrils now settled down, occasionally pushing against his sides before finally growing still. Their mellow movements were of little concern, Bones’ plans for a collective having wiggled into his thoughts. It was strange to consider being in a family, much less a loose collective of creatures with various different ideas and beliefs. Batu had always gone about his day with only himself and his friendly little wiggle friends, and it was unusual to think someone like him would possibly consider finding himself in a group.  Well, he was here now, considering such a thing.

Bones watched them all silently for a moment, giving them ample time to respond to him. He was met with silence and steely gazes, and had he been capable it was a sure thing the monarch would have been grinning. It seemed their silence meant they understood him, though he had not asked if they agreed. It would be unwise for him to rile them up immediately, he assumed. Bones wished to speak with each and every one of them privately on their concerns, worries, and the like-- though this was not the time. He was here to talk about Vromme and himself. Though he found himself to be rather blasé and instead cleared his throat.

"Very well," his voice rattled, bones scraping and creaking as his jaw moved. It was unsettling how much noise he made just by shifting slightly. He did not hear the others when they did such a thing, though perhaps their muscle and fat dulled the sound? No. Bones assumed it was merely because of what he was. He was of course, an equine like the rest of him but he was different. He was not stupid enough to think he looked identical to them. But they all didn't look identical to each other, either. He was satisfied that they were all different but they were all still horses.

"I wish to speak to all of you in length-- though today perhaps I shall go on. If you wish for something more, please seek me." He pauses, perhaps gathering his own bearings as he turns his head slowly, singular glowing orb falling on each of the horses gathered before him. "The Proving is the first to come to be. I need hunters and trackers who would take a knee. The Proving-- a place to show your skill not flee. Reanimated husks of life come back to be. And we shall see..." Bones pauses again, clattering his teeth together. "See, see, see."

He shakes his head, as if trying to unscramble his thoughts. His tail snaps against the bones of his hind end. "See." He nods, mostly to himself as he raises his glance again. "See what else is in store for thee." Bones nods, "If there is nothing else for the eve, I shall bid you adieu."

ooc: bones translation-- bones is saying he wants to talk with them all one on one but it's not the time for that. if you want a job/position/rank of some sort to seek him out to be discussed. he does speak of "The Proving" which will be the first big thing of his time in vromme which is basically a colosseum type thing where you can fight reanimated beasts etc. some thing to both pass the time and train. he needs hunters/trackers who can help him find things but he says take a knee because he is not interested in anyone from another house. if no one has any questions and concerns the meeting is over. he basically just wanted to pop in and say hello.

and here's to fun stuff in vromme! if anyone has anything that they wanna throw at bones for vromme feel free to hit me up i'd love to get some more stuff going. and eventually would love to host a party once he's more situated :D to vromme!!!!
