Welcome to Slidr River Valley, home to the strong, the brave, and the resilient. Challenging the odds surmounting against them, the Houses of equine fight in a power struggle for ultimate control over the Valley. With the Bloodless fading away after the First Great Winter of Three, Fimbulvetr, the Slidr River Valley is in a state of discord as the Houses throw themselves into an arms race for power. From predators to the gods themselves every day ushers in a new obstacle to overcome. Fimbulvetr is a literate intermediate-advanced fantasy horse role-play with a survivalist concept. The environment is designed to work against your characters as they move forward in their journey through the arcana riddled realm of Slidr River Valley. With an immense history and lore, we encourage our members to create locals and "outsiders" alike.

Summer Year One | The sun is high and it is long, and with it as are the days. Summer has claimed the entirety of the Slidr River Valley and in doing so has cast higher, comportable temperatures throughout the Southern and Central territories. The Western still boasts snow capped mountains, but mud slides are frequent and they are heavy. The North remains green, just warm enough to cultivate and brood the new life there, but the further you tred the lower the temperatures fall, their mountains still ice cladden and snow tipped. The East, the poor souls, is sweltering. At night the temperatures drop to the Valley's daily warmth. Little can be done to add comfort, and each day the Oasis becomes drier and drier...

Silence is our Fate

The crumbling walls that made up the home of the ruling family had become something of an interest to the unicorn. It was a place unlike any other and she could spend hours just taking everything in. The vines that wove through the rock and the moss that covered the ground were beautiful in their own ways. She did have to watch where she stepped around the lesser traveled areas. The moss had a tendency to be slippery beneath her hooves and a fall down the mountain would not end well. She probably shouldn't have been exploring alone anyway, just in case, but it couldn't be helped. Sometimes you just had to be alone.
Being on her own also gave her time to think and get rid of some of the tension in her muscles. The mute couldn't scream into the sky but she could find other means of release. She felt somewhat foolish going around and kicking rocks off the sides of the cliff but it really did help. Ezera wasn't exactly sure what it was that she was trying to get rid of but there was something. A string of words moved through her head, none of them making sense, as she walked. If anyone was around they might hear one or two of the words but she couldn't feel any other minds.
It had taken a while but eventually she had realized that the buzzing had been a type of alert. Her magic had been taking hold and ready to use, although it wasn't the strongest. It was an interesting struggle to find the right word to convey exactly what she wanted to say but it made things so much easier. The mare still hadn't worked with it much but just knowing it was there was a comfort. There was no way of knowing if it would fully return and she wouldn't allow herself to really hope but deep down she did.
As golden eyes watched yet another rock tumble down the side a quiet breath left her nose. There really was nothing to worry about. They had found a place to call home, her former magic appeared to be returning, and everything seemed alright. And yet still there would always be a constant tension in the back of her mind that would never allow her to fully relax. A mixture of things had created it and nothing would probably ever take it away. All she could do was get used to it and try to distract herself by gazing out over the beautiful place she now lived in.

Settling in had taken some time. Of course those who had supported Brynja's rule had proved a difficult company somewhat inhospitable. But could she blame them? Their queen had vanished entirely and a colt half if not a third their age was the only one brave enough to do anything about it. And of course, Iracebeth and Ezera were the new king's family. They were as alien to the established members so she couldn't blame them for their standoff behavior.

So, of course, if the tight knit family needed someone to talk to they only had each other. She'd already been spending time with Andante, sharing their (special) moments away from the eyes of Tryggr. But a heart yearns for so much more than friendship, and when Iracebeth found her gilt hooves carrying her steady from the shadows of the fir trees and into the realm of Berg-Risi the young femme knew she wanted her mom. The grullo of her coat had suffered slightly due to the rising sun of Spring, lightening it and offering the slightest hint of tawny. Her silvery mane gleamed so brightly at times it could have been mistaken for white. And of course the soft speckling of gilt flakes in her horns and hooves dazzled in the longer dazes. She was hard to miss among the crowd, but so was her mother. With an obsidian coat that could have consumed stars and the tell-tale glimmer of a golden thread woven intricately through her lips, she too stood alone against the rest.

Today, she stood alone quite literally. Iracebeth eyed the closeness to the cliff face in which she stood with a slight distrust. Although they'd been here nearly two seasons now she hadn't grown quite accustom to the heights just yet. While they offered breathtaking views and amazing adventures, the young maiden still didn't feel as sure footed as obviously her mother did. She came up next to the mare, a soft nicker offered in greeting, and a swish of her silver banner. A smile dressed her di-colored lips and her bright treasure eyes shone with an affection only a child could know for it's mother. "What're you doing?" she asked absently, her voice always taking a quality of innocence around the mare despite her third birthday lingering in the coming months.

Silence is our Fate

The sound of someone approaching caused the unicorn to pause in her actions. There really was no question as to who it might be. Only two equines would come looking for her and she had already spoken with Andante recently. In an attempt to keep her body from reacting in a way that her daughter would notice she held herself still. It probably wouldn't help much but if she could keep the shudder from traveling along her body then all she would have to worry about was the brief second of panic that could be seen in her eyes. Sometimes she wondered how it had remained hidden before, or if it had always been obvious but looked over. She had yet to notice anyone, especially Iracebeth, reacting to it so maybe it wasn't as big of a reaction as she thought it was. Either way it wasn't something she ever wanted her daughter to see.
Ezera turned her head slightly to glance at the girl for a moment before glancing back out over the drop. She felt the panic swell in her chest and had it forced back down by the time Iracebeth stopped beside her. Someday she would have to find a way to rid herself of that reaction but for now she would continue to hide it. As the feeling passed she turned to look at her daughter again but this time without looking away a moment later. The mute reached out with her muzzle and gently brushed the girl's cheek. There really was no real explanation that she could give for what she was doing. At least not one that she could, or even would, try to fit into a one worded answer. Instead she just went with the simplest answer she could think of.
Thinking... It wasn't exactly correct but it was the best she could say. It would be difficult to elaborate if Iracebeth asked but there was no point in trying to think ahead. Doing so only ever made her head hurt. It was exhausting to try and think of every single thing someone might say or ask and try and come up with a way to answer before it was even said. Having so many thoughts in her head at once was distracting and confusing so she was trying to stop. The mare had caught herself a couple of times but so far things had become easier, especially now with the little bit of magic. Ezera nudged at Iracebeth again and made a point to look around before returning her gaze to her daughter, this time with a questioning look in her eyes.

It was true. The young maiden always missed her mother's eyes as they widened in that sliver of terror and panic. The gunmetal filly would never understand the likeness of her appearance to her father and how it effected her mother. At least, until perhaps one day she had a motive to ask. For now though, she fell besides her dam and cast her eyes out to the azure skies filled with columns of alabaster. Snow capped mountains enveloped the Valley until they disappeared in the steely haze of obscurity. Iracebeth lost herself again in the view from these heights. She hadn't seen many sights such as these. The majesty was unparalleled. Beauty lingered in the way the deep viridian greens shone through the overcast and dull, hazy must that slid over the summits, but it also ensnared a vague picture of danger. It was entirely unbridled, perhaps even to the gods of old. Again her silver banner flicked, and she considered the adventure and secrets that lay dormant while she simply peered from the cliffs above.

Ultimately the trance was broken by her mother's soft, velvet muzzle upon her cheek. It brought a pinched simper to the girl's lips and she tossed those gilt eyes of hers over to the obsidian unicorn. An arch of electricity flared from one sparkling horn to another, a crackle and pop buzzing in her ear as a momento of it's brief existence. A single word was offered back to Iracebeth in reply, but it brought her great joy. Her di-colored lips wrinkled with a broad smile, and her eyes lit with every ounce of admiration her form could muster. It was wonderful to hear her mother's voice, disembodied as it was, and so fleeting. "Hmm.." she murmured in response. Her head nodded absently as her gaze turned away briefly to gander at the vast expanse that unfolded below them.

But her mother still relied heavily upon body language for communication, and it had become such a hard habit to break Iracebeth couldn't let her eyes linger away for too long. Her gaze followed her mother's gesture to the general expanse around them, moss laden rock and all. 'What are you doing up here, she had asked, of course. What child couldn't understand their mother? And while the answer was quite simple, the gilded girl didn't quite know if she had an answer. "Thinking, I suppose..." she finally declared, although her tone danced with mistrust at her own words. What was there to think about? Again her eyes strayed to the Tryggr Hold, it's breadth, grandeur, and sublimity. "Guess I was lonely. Needed some company."

Silence is our Fate

The sparks that danced between the filly's horns caught Ezera's eyes and she followed them. It was a mesmerizing ability and the mare wasn't exactly sure where the magic had come from but it fit the girl. The smile that spread across her lips erased any similarities that Iracebeth had with her father, at least to the mute. A smile so bright and full of love would never had appeared on the face of that stallion. That and the light in her eyes always made all the pain just vanish. A matching brightness burned in her own eyes as her daughter turned to look out over the cliff.
At Iracebeth's matching response the lips beneath the golden thread shifted upwards a tiny bit. It was such a small movement that was worth the twinge of pain. It was brief though as the unicorn registered the tone beneath the words. Ezera wanted to ask what exactly was on the girl's mind but wasn't exactly sure how. Even if she had known it would have been pointless since her daughter's next words were close enough to an answer. The feeling of being lonely was something she was familiar with and could understand. Her head dipped down in a nod as she gazed out over the edge.
The unicorn had been hoping to find Iracebeth sometime soon. Since discovering the magic that now allowed her to actually "speak" without needing someone to "translate" there was so much she wanted to say. Of course, at the moment she could only say a couple of things before the magic stopped working. At some point she'd have to figure out how to say more but until then she was content to work with what she had. Beautiful... A gentle feeling moved through her as Ezera gazed out over the edge. It was a feeling that came from the view and being close to her daughter. Family had a way of doing that for you.
