Welcome to Slidr River Valley, home to the strong, the brave, and the resilient. Challenging the odds surmounting against them, the Houses of equine fight in a power struggle for ultimate control over the Valley. With the Bloodless fading away after the First Great Winter of Three, Fimbulvetr, the Slidr River Valley is in a state of discord as the Houses throw themselves into an arms race for power. From predators to the gods themselves every day ushers in a new obstacle to overcome. Fimbulvetr is a literate intermediate-advanced fantasy horse role-play with a survivalist concept. The environment is designed to work against your characters as they move forward in their journey through the arcana riddled realm of Slidr River Valley. With an immense history and lore, we encourage our members to create locals and "outsiders" alike.

Autumn Year 501 | The heat has broken, and the trees of the Valley begin their transition from emerald to citrine and rubine. The temperatures steadily drop as the progression of Autumn claims all of the Slidr River Valley and plunges it into the hallowed solstace. Snow already weightlessly falls from the sky on cold nights - especially to the North and West. The Laurel Alps and Frior Mountain Range begin the process of wrapping themselves in thick white blankets of snow, leaving the once purple snowcapped border of the continent a stark white crescendo on the horizon. To the East, the heat wave has finally broken. The staggering temperatures have fallen simply from the harsh miles of wind sweeping from the mountainous vales and into the bowl of the desert. Those huddling in the Frekr Oasis for salvation will find the nights frigid. Best light the plinth fires and stock up for the winter, for it is just around the corner.

Gunmetal flints carried the gentleman along the near opaque river Blar with an effortless fashion. Despite his absence of direction or location within this foreign realm, his strides were unhindered by caution. Rather, each fluid extension the hessian commanded the terra beneath him simply by his erect carriage and calculative gaze. Rocks clacked and skipped at the steady, rhythmic beat that ushered him forth, betraying his entry to the lands of the west. Nothing in his demeanor spoke for a want of secrecy. Quite opposite, in fact. Everything exuded a desire to be seen, to draw the eye and the ear. A startling cerulean gaze swept through the shadowed trees about him, eyeing their breaks, noting the truancy of guards. Why did he suppose there would be guards? Why, no one could miss the linger perfumes of the local denizens. Many had walked the stream, most tracks lingering in the mud traveling further west into the belly of the mountains. Without breaking his stride, those bright orbs snapped upward, peering through a curtain of inky tresses towards the snow capped peaks. One in peculiar lingered close than all others, standing lone twixt its brethren, padded with what he assumed the remainder of this wood. If Tywin had the right mind to establish a home for himself, it'd be nestled on the jutting cliffs of that lonely mountain. And, without a doubt in his mind, he assumed that was where this herd held themselves.

A small snort burst from his icy nares, a slow descent of his lids also lowering the slight rise of his visage. It turned to the stream, where those black lashes unveiled those beautiful sapphires once more, and he peered into the silt riddled waters. It babbled softly, adding to the constant and unwavering cadence of his waltz, with only infrequent disruptions from trout brave enough to leap from beneath the surface to catch one of the low flying insects hovering overhead. Ichor masses of hair were already soddened with the river water and started the short process of becoming dirtied. The stud noted the damp at his cornets, the flecks of mud... They were not his ideal outfit. But the grounds grew less littered with stone but fresh loam. He found his flints sinking into the grounds and pulling him into the trees, away from the stream that now ribboned through the phantasmal trees. The birdsong had steadily transformed from airy chorus to the haunting drone of crows. A particular crow sat within the skeletal trees. One beady eye followed Tywin as he traipsed through, a mental "hmph" upon his lips as his starless banner flicked.

Voices. He stopped. Three steps to the side brought him into the lingering darkness that intensified with the evening hour. Two guards; they were armored, helmed, and surely instructed to approach any face they didn't know. Though the hue of his pelt melted him into the gloom his bright eyes could betray him. Lids hung, half hooded, as the stud shifted his weight behind the closest timber, obscuring him from the view of the guards. "...young, you think?" one's voice carried. "Yeah, I thought-", the other replied, but the conversation faded like the lowering sun. The right of his velvets twitched into a smirk, and the stallion stepped back from around the trunk, his keen eyes raising to the branches. Another crow's stuttering movement adjusted it's head to peer down at the stallion. Tywin caught it's eyes with his own, and the two stared at each other for a long while. Tension was almost palpable betwixt their eyes, but eventually the crow relented. It cawed, a hideous sound that was grating on the ears. It's iridescent wings parted, taking flight, and disappeared into the gnarled, budding fingers of the trees high limbs. Pausing only a moment longer, Tywin's visage lowered again, scanning quickly through the dimness lingering beneath the that canopy, before his flints surged again. Continuing as if he'd never halted, his path continued, the smirk still alight upon his icy lips, continuing on.

Who knew what he'd find.

Silence is our Fate

The mute had become fond of the streams that moved through the lands that they now called home. Most of the time that was where she could be found, but today she had decided to explore another part of the kingdom. The hillside had piqued her interest ever since she had overheard some of the others in the herd speaking of it. She had taken to standing in the shadows or around trees, listening in while stories of this place were told. It was one of the better ways for her to find out about it and this way she didn't have work on actually asking. Of course this meant that she heard some things that she wished she hadn't, especially about how most of the citizens felt about having such a young king. During these times she would just walk away while wishing she could have stepped up and said something. Being young had nothing to do with being able to rule a kingdom. In fact, in Ezera's eyes a young ruler was often better than an older one. They were more open to ideas and change. These citizens that doubted Andante would just have to get over their thinking and realize the same.
It was all of the gossip that had her out of the main area and exploring. All of the stories of the rulers from before were grating on her nerves. She knew enough about the guards to know the best times to slip through their watch and get to where she wanted to be. The unicorn moved faster than was probably safe but she really didn't want to be followed by anyone, especially a guard. Some of them had the thought to not stare but others couldn't help it. Ezera understood, having a thread through your lips wasn't something that was seen everyday, but that didn't mean she was fond of the looks. What really got to her were the whispers as they tried to figure out why. Some of the things they came up with she wished she hadn't heard. There was no point in trying to explain to them since they would believe what they wished. Instead all she could do was ignore them and know that their stories weren't true.
Only after she had past two guards talking about Andante did she slow. They were the furthest out and the last line, meaning she probably wouldn't run into any more. Now she could take her time, be more cautious and watch her step. Falling down a slope was't the plan for today. Ezera took in all the green and the way the light shone through the canopy of trees above. It really was a gorgeous area that they had found. Somehow they had ended up in this new home only a little while after arriving through the Bifrost. It was almost like a miracle. The mare kept waiting for something to happen, something that wouldn't be good for them. It seemed about time for something not so good to occur. That's how life worked wasn't it? She didn't bother to move quietly since there was nobody else around.

Soon after he'd prepared to start his shadowed entry he'd stopped again.

Still enshrouded by the thickness of the timbers and their enveloping branches, Tywin's sharp eyes honed upon another figure. One he'd seen before, all those years ago now. The obsidian femme moved with a caution. There was little need to assume that she too had hidden from the patrol. It sparked his curiosity a bit, because just why would someone need to sneak out of a kingdom? But of course... she wasn't just someone. At least, not to him.

The flesh along his dorsal prickled with excitement. Not of the sexual nature, mind you, but of the simple thrill that he knew something about her and she knew very little about him. Though he prided himself as a gentleman and more oft than not ensured such a mantle was held at all times, Tywin could also be described as... well... a privately sadistic creature. Though even the thought left a bad taste in his mouth because it was all too close of verbiage to the words he would have used to describe his sire, he wasn't a man to shy away from his desires. And oh, how he did wish to introduce himself to her.

With an upright carriage that had his limbs gracefully crossing over the underbrush of the forest, the stallion slid from the shadows as if he had been previously embodied them. As it had prior, every step the stud took seemed to lay claim to the earth beneath him, as if he alone was entitled to it's existence. Through the ribbons of golden light that pierced the thick canopy above, he traipsed through their path. He wanted his presence showcased. He wanted her to see him. Tywin floated towards the mare's general direction, a waterfall of ink shaping his robust features. Unwavering orbs of sapphire watched her but not unkindly. There was an intelligent regard there, accented with a courtier's smirk. There was a consciousness to his gait. He did not want to rush up to her to startle her - she already seemed alert and on edge. Rather, it was almost orchestrated to her own; a male following the lead of a lady in their waltz. "Why, I haven't seen you in a long time." Tywin made a point of increasing the volume of his voice so that even if she tried to ignore him, she wouldn't miss the striking allegation.

Silence is our Fate

She probably should have been more concerned about someone else being around. It was nearly impossible to know if one was alone in a forest so big. Which is probably why she was slightly startled but not all that surprised when another figure appeared in her range of sight. What did end up surprising her was how confidant he seemed as he moved, as if he had a real reason for approaching instead of just happening upon her. It made her nervous in a way that not many things did and she paused in her own steps. Ezera had to keep herself from taking several steps away as he got closer.
He seemed familiar but the mute had no recollection of seeing him before. It was one of those recognitions where someone looks like someone else that she had interacted with. He didn't exactly look like the stallion that haunted her memories, which was a good thing otherwise she would be long gone, but he had similarities. The mare would never admit it but looking at him was similar to the very first feeling she got whenever she looked at Iracebeth. Her heart felt as though it froze and anxiety flooded her. It was a feeling she wasn't proud of and constantly wished it would go away but she hadn't found a way yet.
Of course the feeling vanished immediately when she was with Iracebeth, but with this stranger it remained. Even if he did have less similarities to the other stallion. The temptation to just turn around and return to the guarded area had almost won over when he spoke. His words sent ice through her veins as she tried to figure out what he meant. Ezera was sure that they had never met before but he still seemed to act as though he knew her. It wasn't a thing she wanted to think about but if he seemed so familiar with her than it probably wasn't be best idea to return without dealing with him. Keeping him from knowing just exactly where she lived seemed like a good thing.
So instead of just leaving she narrowed golden eyes and moved so that she faced him fully. The mare almost didn't want to waste her limited amount of magic on speaking with him but there was no other way to address what she wanted to know. How...? it was a question that could mean anything but in this setting, with what he had just said, there was really only one possible thing she was asking about.

Rather than turn her tail and run, like she should have done when she'd ultimately met Tywin's sire, the unicorn mare molded from the stone obsidian simply bore her slimming gaze at him. A phantom of a smile twitched in his lips, one that would make you squint and examine those velvet lips all the closer to ensure you truly did see it after all. Tywin's solid legs carried him still with that unwavering air of confidence, of pure and unbridled virility, as if he held the keys to the kingdom - nay, dare I say the world - and no one could command him to stop. He halted now, having ensnared his attention. The spectra smile, so soft and so near indiscernible, remained upon his lips as a minute tilt of his head spilled some of his inky tresses across his visage. Those icy blue eyes of his watched her without edge. Nothing of his mannerisms spoke of threat, no, why his body language indeed was quite slack. They had to be so neutral, so inviting, because he could see the way she looked at him.

The woman could see the face of his father in his own. While the markings, hell, they were the obvious tell he inherited the sharp features from his sire. The color palette was also a rather damning piece of evidence, but he did have to admit he thought it draped and wrapped the frame bolstered by his dam quite nicely. In fact, he'd dare to call himself quite handsome despite the blood and other bodily fluids splattering his family's ledger. And this mare saw it. The very smallest twitches around her eyes as they flicked about his face, as they investigated him with the closest scrutiny... she knew all too well what she was looking at. When she finally inquired, a ghostly query poised through the mind rather than the voice, Tywin's brow raised though the rest of his visage remained rather still. "My, that's a trick you have there." The laced compliment fell, disregarding the defenses obviously placed with her accusation. Because that was what it was, yes? An accusation.

How did he know her because she obviously couldn't quite place him accurately. Tywin was confident that the seeds had already been planted in her mind's eye, however, and she was just in the looping phase of denial. "It is my rather educated speculation that your little golden filly and I may share some lineage." He paused, tossing those piercing blues off into the shadowed realm about them to make a quick and understated scan for any more guards. Silence befell him before he turned back to her again, his movements fluid, poised, almost articulated and orchestrated by an unseen court. "I was unfortunately in the vicinity when my sire attacked you." His eyes closed a moment, his visage tilted the other direction, and just as his lips parted again so did the shrouds over his sapphire eyes, "I assure you I would have done something if I had been close enough, but my observations were mostly at a distance and through scent. It would have been over by time I had gotten there. Thought it better not to track you down afterwards." Its words slipped from his lips, coming to a neat verbal close while his own orbs slipped across her face, across the gilt thread sewn into her lips, and he did his own investigations. He didn't want to miss her reaction.

Silence is our Fate

It really shouldn't have surprised Ezera that the monster that had attacked her had done the same to others. There were probably more than just two of his children out there but the thought was something she didn't want to consider. She could barely handle the memories of her own... experience. Knowing that at least one other mare had gone through the same thing was not something she had wanted. For a moment the unicorn wondered if whoever this stallions mother was also had nightmares. If she saw the monster in the shadows or flinched whenever she had looked at her son. It wasn't something she was going to ask about but she still wondered.
Those thoughts might have been in her head for a long time after that but his next words froze her mind. As far as she had known only two equines knew for certain what had happened and two others suspected. Zac and Io had never been told but it probably hadn't been hard to guess. Especially after Zac had found her and Io had been there for Iracebeth's birth. But to hear that someone had actually been nearby during the... "incident" was disturbing. Scenarios ran through her head of what would have happened, where she would be, if he had been able to stop it. Iracebeth wouldn't exist and the mute probably would have been somewhere much different.
For a moment Ezera wished that this stranger had tried to stop it anyway. But she knew it probably would have done more harm than good with his similarities to his father. A shudder traveled through her body as she considered what else he was saying. This stallion was a complete stranger and yet he knew the secret that she would probably never tell anyone else. He also knew who her daughter was and how she had come to be. Iracebeth herself didn't even know that and hopefully she never would. Golden eyes burned in a warning that she hoped he would understand. No one would be telling her about her father, not if she could help it.
Satisfied with the force of her gaze the unicorn took a deep breath and the anger melted away along with a bit of the fear. He obviously wasn't going to attack her otherwise he would have done it by now. With the burning emotions gone Ezera just felt tired. The desire to curl up somewhere and sleep for a long time was there but she still had some things she wanted to know. He obviously knew more than she was comfortable knowing about her but it made it somewhat worse that she knew nothing about him. She would have to be careful about what she used her magic to ask. Name?

There was no claim that the only son of Javik Traegur was of average characteristics for his breed. And what was that breed one might ask? A saint, or even a heroic knight, wouldn’t have sought out a mare he knew only by image to coax reactions from her as he poked at her mental wounds. Not many considered others emotions, mentality, and sanity with such calculative speculation as Tywin. When Ezera’s golden eyes turned molten with a wordless threat, he’d nearly smirked. Those icy cool lips of his twitched only ever so slightly. It was the only hint at his pleasure. Otherwise, his thick broom of eldritch tail offered but a quick flick – perhaps nothing more than shooing a stray, nipping fly – while the rest of his embodiment remained stoic.

What would the mare do if he somehow contacted his half-sister; that golden filly of hers? Surely she wouldn’t have been so crass, denying her the only semblance of a sibling she may ever have. Inside his mind reeled again with a silent, quiet chuckle, and he remembered the ghostly, pale faced daughter of Traegur, Maren. A momentary question consumed his thoughts, and Tywin all but discarded the wordless threat the obsidian unicorn bade him. Should he speak of the other? The one speckled, most like their father? Dare he tell Ezera that she was here, in this very realm, manic and unbridled by conscious? That she, Maren Traegur, was an apple that had not fallen far – if at all – from the proverbial tree?

He elected to leave it. For now.

Nothing on the stallion’s visage betrayed these whirring, constant thoughts, but his lids did lower and rise slowly, before locking quickly with the dam’s own as her telepathic prowess implanted a single word into his head. A simple question. This time the left of his lips did upturn in the faintest smirk. “Tywin Traegur,” he offered, “the only known son of Javik Traegur, first of my name.” The curl his lip had procured faded entirely with his proclamation but he blinked once at its finale. “And yourself? In a twisted facet only nature can provide, we are family, afterall.”

Silence is our Fate

Another equine might not have been able to catch the small movement in the stallion's face but after relying on reading the emotions of others, and having to use her own to communicate, the mute was able to catch the twitch of his lips. She did have to admit that he had a talent in keeping his composure when something was obviously causing him to be amused. It was frustrating when emotions were something she had become good at knowing.
Ezera's eyes followed the movement of his tail before returning to his face, unwilling to miss any other possible flickers of emotion. Anything that would give away what he might be thinking of. She wasn't really expecting him to give a name, and if he did she was sure it wouldn't be his own, but when he spoke she was proven wrong. Something about the way he said it, almost as if he had been waiting for her to ask, paired with the smirk left no question that he was telling the truth. The surprise she felt at this almost distracted her enough to keep from reacting to the name that was spoken next.
The shudder that traveled through her body made it seem as though the stallion before her was moving as well. Ezera hadn't known the name of the stallion that had brought about Iracebeth's existence and she hadn't wanted to. Giving him a name made him so much more real, gave him more of a presence in her past instead of just being a ghost. Another shudder threatened to overtake her but the mute shoved it away. Giving Tywin more than one reaction to the name wasn't something she wanted to do.
The unicorn was almost thankful for his next question until he mentioned that they were practically family. This time she managed to keep from showing any outward sign of emotion even as ice spread through her veins. It took a moment before she was able to remember what had been asked. With how he acted as though he already knew so much it came as a surprise to be asked for her name. Although now that she thought about it not many had known.
Ezera. She had been tempted to give a name that was not her own but it seemed useless. He would have figured it out anyway and it was only fair to be honest herself. The unicorn watched him as she felt the magic in her mind start to fade. It wouldn't be long before she had reached her limit.

There came a point when every experiment met its inevitable end and it seemed that the natural cycle of their conversation was instructing Tywin such. While it was truely fascinating to finally meet one of his prized subjects, one of the most desired equine to share conversation with, the stallion knew that there was a breaking point. The fact that Ezera had lasted for the duration of their conversation with such resilience, bravery, and only a single shudder at the utterance of Javik's name was, well, impressive. Tywin had seen so many more crumble under the weight of far smaller tests. It was time to reward that bravery, that soundness of the woman's mind. It was time to relent. And doing so, the smirk that had risen on his frosted lips faded, and a far more stoic, perhaps even apathetic expression painted the lines of his visage as she exposed her name. He offered her a small nod, one where his lids blinked slowly, passing his gaze to the ground for a moment in thought, before blinking one last time and returning.

"I'd say it's a pleasure, Ezera, but I cannot declare with confidence you feel the same way." His tone was matter-of-fact, no more direct than someone idly commenting about the weather. The utensils of his wordsmith were being put away, the probes disconnected and power terminated. He took one cursory glance around them again, a deliberate and thoughtful sweep that exuded appreciation for the dark wood that surrounded them but also served as an opportunity to watch for further chatting guards. While he didn't necessarily come with the intent of hostility, he knew little of the kingdom here. Where the borders closed? Open? Their ruler violent to strangers? Ezera seemed complacent enough with his intrusion... perhaps his caution was unwarranted.

But Tywin was not a creature of chance.

Fluidily he turned his vision back to the mare. In truth, he was suprised she was overwhelmed by his sire at all. The man had been frail, thing, perhaps even wiry. But unbridled, unrelenting strength from a mad man counted for much... perhaps enough to negate her advantage of height and youth. But those were musings for another time. Tywin offered Ezera a final nod of his head, a curtious and gentlemanly gesture, before taking the first of his steps forward in indication he would take his leave. "I do apologize for the harm he caused you, Ezera, though I know words cannot mend such trauma. If you'll excuse me, I do not wish to impose on your further." A small snort expelled from his glacier nares, and his smirk winked back to life for only a second, "Part of me is sure you did not wake knowing you'd have to face it today." With a sway of his ichor banner and yet another long, paused, nod of his visage Tywin turned himself from the obsidian unicorn and turned his sights to the shadowed forest. Somewhere mountains hid behind the trees, and it was now his intended audience.
