Welcome to Slidr River Valley, home to the strong, the brave, and the resilient. Challenging the odds surmounting against them, the Houses of equine fight in a power struggle for ultimate control over the Valley. With the Bloodless fading away after the First Great Winter of Three, Fimbulvetr, the Slidr River Valley is in a state of discord as the Houses throw themselves into an arms race for power. From predators to the gods themselves every day ushers in a new obstacle to overcome. Fimbulvetr is a literate intermediate-advanced fantasy horse role-play with a survivalist concept. The environment is designed to work against your characters as they move forward in their journey through the arcana riddled realm of Slidr River Valley. With an immense history and lore, we encourage our members to create locals and "outsiders" alike.

Autumn Year 501 | The heat has broken, and the trees of the Valley begin their transition from emerald to citrine and rubine. The temperatures steadily drop as the progression of Autumn claims all of the Slidr River Valley and plunges it into the hallowed solstace. Snow already weightlessly falls from the sky on cold nights - especially to the North and West. The Laurel Alps and Frior Mountain Range begin the process of wrapping themselves in thick white blankets of snow, leaving the once purple snowcapped border of the continent a stark white crescendo on the horizon. To the East, the heat wave has finally broken. The staggering temperatures have fallen simply from the harsh miles of wind sweeping from the mountainous vales and into the bowl of the desert. Those huddling in the Frekr Oasis for salvation will find the nights frigid. Best light the plinth fires and stock up for the winter, for it is just around the corner.

Silence is our Fate

The mare had no idea where she was going, just that she had to move. It had been ridiculous to think that she might have been able to rest in the snow. Having Iracebeth and Andante there had helped but the moment she had felt the absence of their presence it had become too much. A part of Ezera had wanted to go find the two but it hadn't been strong enough to fight against the desire to escape. It was frustrating that something so common and normal caused her heart to try and break through her chest, her lungs to disobey and refuse to bring in air, or her mind to be overwhelmed by things she just wanted to forget.
The moment golden eyes opened to see the emptiness of the area around her she was up and walking. It took everything within her to not run. Running would have been more dangerous as she was barely even paying attention to where she was going. Ezera's steps were odd and stiff because of this but it was one of the only things she could control at the moment so she continued to fight it. Letting go would be giving in and she couldn't let herself do that. In her head it would end up like the situation she was trying to run from, although this time she was alone.
It took a while but eventually the unicorn's heart slowed, her breaths became normal, and her mind stopped trying to destroy her with the memories. She fell against a tree and pulled in air until she couldn't hold it any longer before letting it all rush out. Her eyes closed and just let the smell of dirt and water take over for a moment. It was an oddly calming scent and, when coupled with the sound of water falling nearby, allowed her to forget everything for a second. Her moment of peace was interrupted by the surprising and nearly overwhelming desire to scream, to let it all out in a mess of sound. It was an irony that didn't escape her notice while she struggled to keep her mouth closed. Causing pain might numb the desire but it wouldn't be worth it in the end.

Something is happening! Blar swelled with the melting snow, it's streams running rivers through the western territories that cut through the moist soil like talons. Embankments of dirty, spring snow clung to the edges of the forest... a dark forest, one far darker than the rest of the Slidr River Valley. Shadows seemed to creep and crawl, move just out of the peripheral so that everyone - Ezera included - would question themselves. While the conversational stream continued to babble with itself, and birdsong seemed only distance and the nearest trees vacant, there was another sound, wasn't there? If one honed their ears, if they focused hard enough, they could hear it. It was graveled voice, ragged, as if they'd consumed flint and coal and wrestled to speak with afterwards. "Listen..." it murmured into the shadows. "Listen. Can you hear me?" Amusement hung in the inquiry though the rasp struggled in volume. Can she hear it?

Welcome to your quest! Ezera seems to have an obstacle to overcome to begin her journey with telepathy! You have three posts to do so, and three days to respond to each Storyteller reply. Good luck!

Silence is our Fate

It was strange how a place so calm and peaceful could become ominous within a moment. The ebony unicorn hadn't noticed the shadows and darkness within the trees when she had first arrived. Of course this would be difficult to do with closed eyes but even before she had closed them the space had seemed bright, although this could have been due to the final escape of the darkness of her past. Whatever it had been it was obviously gone now. When her eyes opened again they caught on to the sudden appearance of shadows.
Ezera's skin shivered with the change in atmosphere and she straightened up. Being slumped against the tree put her into a position to be thought of as tired and weak. Of course, both of those were true, but it was better to hide it from anyone that could be watching. For a couple of moments the mare was so focused on what might be hiding in the sudden darkness that she didn't catch the extra noise. It was only after she stopped moving that the voice settled on her ears. It reminded her of the snake she had met when searching for that bird. A disembodied voice that seemed to come from nowhere and everywhere at once.
This voice was different though. The snake had been surprising but at least it had shown itself and she could tell the general direction it had come from. It had also sounded somewhat like a snake. But this voice... this voice was rough and barely audible. She could barely tell what it was saying and even then she question if it was even real. Voices in her head were not a surprise, but this voice didn't feel like it was in her mind. Ezera might have run after this realization but without knowing exactly where, and who, the voice had come from there was the chance that she might run right into it. This fear kept her standing beside the tree, bright eyes darting around to try and find the source.

Something is happening! Darkness could be ones best defense or ultimate downfall. Did Ezera know how the shadows would treat her? "You can here me..." The disembodied voice growled. And had it come from the tree to her right? So clear and booming? "But I can't hear you." It hissed, whispering into her ear before the phantasmal trees echoed. All aspects of spring had faded; no birdsong let loose from the trees, no squirrels darted through the underbrush. It was the voice and the shadows that claimed the Wood now. And Ezera would have to try harder than that if she wanted to disperse whatever haunt stalked her through these timbers. Remaining debris from autumn scuffled across the grounds, rushing towards her with a burst of air, and from it came the roaring demand, "I can't hear you!"

Ezera's got an opponent in the darkness! She'll have to use all of her resources to overcome this invisible attacker.

Silence is our Fate

Eventually the fear turned into frustration. Ezera was getting tired of not knowing where the possible danger was. There was no clue as to which way to turn, no way that she could really think of to find something to attack. The voice was the only way to possibly track it and even then it seemed to come from nowhere and everywhere at once. But the switch from her mind being clouded by fear to clearing up helped her focus enough to clear her mind. Running was probably her best bet but that couldn't happen until she at least knew which direction she shouldn't go.
Against all of her inner warnings the mare closed her eyes. Sight was useless when there was no one to be seen. Plus all of her attention would be on listening instead of a part of her constantly searching the trees. It definitely wasn't easy and she probably wouldn't have even been able to track it if the sudden rush of wind and leaves hadn't happened. Though she managed to skip off to the side the voice couldn't be avoided. It bombarded her ears and she flinched, wanting to roar right back at it but unable to. This didn't stop her thoughts from running through her mind anyway.
No one can! You'd think that this thing would have figured that out by now...
The movement of the air and the leaves, even if it was so small, gave her something to track. Using both hearing and sight she zeroed in on the rustling fauna and charged it, not sure exactly what would happen but hoping it wasn't the worst idea. Leaving might have been better but it probably would have just followed and she couldn't lead it back to Iracebeth and Andante. Dragging them into this was out of the question. She would deal with whatever this was and then make her way back.

Something is happening! And as if curtains had been pulled away from the windows to reveal the first day's sunshine, the forest seemed to brighten. Dappled sunlight pierced through the fir canopy in slivers of light, casting their blurred light upon the forest floor. The air itself seemed to calm. "Aaaaah..." The graveled voice, no longer so strained, no longer so pointed and violent, murmured from the treetops. "I can hear you now." It whispered to her, fading off with a gentle breeze that blew through the trees and ruffled their leaves. Birds began to sing in the distance, some even above, finding their choral again now that the shadows had faded. The Blar Stream held the illusion it was even babbling with greater ferocity. Voice had returned to the forest, and to Ezera.

Congratulations! Ezera has mastered the Apprentice level of her Arcana. She can now use all arcanum abilities listed in her profile under that specific tier. Until next time!
