With the Bloodless fading away after the First Great Winter of Three, Fimbulvetr, the Slidr River Valley is in a state of discord as the Houses throw themselves into an arms race for power. From predators to the gods themselves every day ushers in a new obstacle to overcome. Fimbulvetr is a literate intermediate-advanced fantasy horse role-play with a survivalist concept. Autumn Year 501 | The heat has broken, and the trees of the Valley begin their transition from emerald to citrine and rubine. The temperatures steadily drop as the progression of Autumn claims all of the Slidr River Valley and plunges it into the hallowed solstace. Snow already weightlessly falls from the sky on cold nights - especially to the North and West. The Laurel Alps and Frior Mountain Range begin the process of wrapping themselves in thick white blankets of snow, leaving the once purple snowcapped border of the continent a stark white crescendo on the horizon. To the East, the heat wave has finally broken. The staggering temperatures have fallen simply from the harsh miles of wind sweeping from the mountainous vales and into the bowl of the desert. Those huddling in the Frekr Oasis for salvation will find the nights frigid. Best light the plinth fires and stock up for the winter, for it is just around the corner.

mariskha stands at a very average sixteen hands. that is nearly the only average thing about her. From the front, it is apparent that she is sunken in and incredibly skinny. her face is short and defined, but dished almost unnaturally at first glance. her neck is thin with almost no muscle, but enough to hold her head up. marishka’s hair is quite fine even though she has a lot of it. it falls out easily and mostly in clumps. travelling down, marishka is very malnourished, but that is the reality of her life. her ribs stick out and her hip bones are very defined through her thin skin. but despite her outward experience, marishka has a very prominent glow of radiance and youth. marishka is dual-toned in black and white. the top half of her body is predominantly white with her mane being an oily, inky black. The bottom half of her body is the exact opposite. it is the same oily, inky black while her tail is the same white as her head. to top marishka off, she has glowing purple eyes and four piercings (eight in total) per ear. runes are inscribed at the base of her mane, and her mouth has been stitched but has been left open enough for her to speak and feed. her canines are sharpened to aid her in her inconveniences.

heartless.

the only way to describe marishka is completely unfeeling. she is empty and sad and full of hate. the only light at the end of her winding, unwavering tunnel of a heart is her sense of humor and ill-timed sarcasm. marishka rarely goes a day without insulting something or someone. whether this is a defense mechanism or her years of mental abuse showing no one truly knows.

aside from her smart mouth and deadpan gaze, marishka can pretend to care. she can pick up on social clues on when to pretend to be interested in case there’s something in it for her. exploitation is no stranger to marishka. if there is something that she wants and the only way to get it is to do unspeakable acts, it will be done with no questions asked. marishka has formed relationships with others (both platonic and romantic) with no true interest in the other party. marishka does not see anything wrong with the way she treats others. boundaries do not exist. if the dictionary had a picture next to manipulator, it would be marishka.

aside from marishka’s negative traits there are some positives hidden beneath her rocky and cold-hearted exterior. marishka can handle high-stress situations with ease. she does not falter under pressure and she certainly does not bend to forceful people. she is her own knight in shining armor, her one true protector. marishka refuses to be the damsel in distress even if she is completely outnumbered. marishka would rather go down fighting than kissing ass to save her own.

before
it all began with one very stupid mare with very stupid, expensive taste almost six years ago. marishka’s mother had danced with the devil in the pale moonlight and put all of her fertile eggs in the same basket. her common folk mother kept her pregnancy from her sovereign and began to live life quietly as she had before. as her stomach grew with child, whispers of a bastard child swirled throughout her herd and marishka’s mother was summoned by her sovereign. he was relentless and cold in his heart, and exiled her to live alone and birth alone in the wilds of the far east desert.

marishka’s birth was not as easy as it had seemed. her mother pushed and strained for hours in the beating sun; her mouth was hot and dry, and her throat was raspy from the screams of pain. marishka’s mother prayed for relief or death, whichever was to come first. as she gave a final push, marishka was plopped onto the earth for the first time. her eyes glittered a glowing purple and her canines were sharpened much more than that of a normal horse.

as marishka grew into a yearling, her mother became more and more frightened of what marishka might become. her mother caught her pacing at night mumbling to herself about nothing, and stomping the death out of anything small she could fit under her hooves. this, my friend, was the straw that broke the camel’s back for marishka’s mother. marishka watched her mother throw herself from the tallest gorge when she was two. in any normal situation, the memory of a sputtering mother in a hungry rapid would scar most children for life. but marishka was not normal. as the final hoof of her mother went under, marishka returned to the descending staircases and continued her life.

now, three years later, marishka wanders the deep wasteland alone. she is uninterested, unbothered, and as dangerous as ever now that her arcana is coming out to play.

►apprentice – marishka is just learning that she can manipulate blood in her own body. this revelation starts out as a pounding, throbbing pain in her chest. what this means for marishka is that she can delay the process of bleeding by slowing her blood flow and she can filter toxins and infection out of her bloodstream. as her hemokinesis is realized, marishka develops an uncontrollable thirst for blood alongside her normal hunger. marishka will learn to feed on anything that she can get her mouth around.

►adept– in an adept mindset, marishka can exploit her hemokinesis to her advantage by increasing and decreasing her blood pressure. this means that she can greatly increase the speed in which she walks, runs, and attacks as her blood pressure rises. this also means that she can efficiently slow her movements down exponentially as if her entire body was in slow motion. unfortunately if marishka uses this power to make her overall speed faster, her body can overheat and cause a quick and very painful death. if she uses this power to make herself slower, she runs the risk of her blood curdling which also leads to death.

►master – in marishka’s master stage of hemokinesis, she learns that she can manipulate the blood of small to medium sized animals. she can use these animals as minions to do her bidding, to help her in a time of distress, or to sacrifice them to quench the bloodlust that now overpowers her. if marishka is manipulating one animal, she can use them as a puppet for a decent period of time. the more bodies that are manipulated, the less she can control them. this can be to her disadvantage if she is wielding a particularly dangerous animal, as they may break through the blood bending and turn on her.

►virtuoso – as a virtuoso, marishka can do ungodly damage to any size animal. she has truly mastered her hemokinesis element and has a large understanding of how her powers work. marishka can manipulate fellow horses (within reason of the player of said horse). with her newfound mastering, marishka will be able to reverse blood flow, cause heart attacks, and burst vessels and arteries with a simple twitch of her head. with the ability to annihilate vessels comes the power to break bones by swelling vessels within them. this takes extreme concentration and is a sixty percent chance of failing. as her strength grows, marishka also gains weaknesses to her powers. at this level, any over-exaggeration of her hemokinesis can leave marishka crippled and drained of any energy until she rests.
