Welcome to Slidr River Valley, home to the strong, the brave, and the resilient. Challenging the odds surmounting against them, the Houses of equine fight in a power struggle for ultimate control over the Valley. With the Bloodless fading away after the First Great Winter of Three, Fimbulvetr, the Slidr River Valley is in a state of discord as the Houses throw themselves into an arms race for power. From predators to the gods themselves every day ushers in a new obstacle to overcome. Fimbulvetr is a literate intermediate-advanced fantasy horse role-play with a survivalist concept. The environment is designed to work against your characters as they move forward in their journey through the arcana riddled realm of Slidr River Valley. With an immense history and lore, we encourage our members to create locals and "outsiders" alike.

Summer Year One | The sun is high and it is long, and with it as are the days. Summer has claimed the entirety of the Slidr River Valley and in doing so has cast higher, comportable temperatures throughout the Southern and Central territories. The Western still boasts snow capped mountains, but mud slides are frequent and they are heavy. The North remains green, just warm enough to cultivate and brood the new life there, but the further you tred the lower the temperatures fall, their mountains still ice cladden and snow tipped. The East, the poor souls, is sweltering. At night the temperatures drop to the Valley's daily warmth. Little can be done to add comfort, and each day the Oasis becomes drier and drier...

pour salt into the wound and let it bleed
It was a strange feeling, being somewhere other than Atnion. Caelian had been flying for ages, but his temporary wings were becoming weak, and the spell he had used for their creation was fading. He had never felt such fatigue, nor anything such as the pain he felt now. He flown through lightning storms, hurricanes, blizzards, and all sorts of elements, it seemed. However, not once did he stop for a nibble nor a drink. He wanted to put as much distance between himself and that dreadful island as physically possible.

And even though he didn’t know it, he’d found his answer. A large tree loomed out of the fog in front of him, and at the same moment, his spell-wings gave up on him. They flapped uselessly as he plummeted to the ground, only briefly finding cushion under the fading feathers. His impact was rough and painful, as the wings did nearly nothing to buffer the fall, and he hit the ground hard, tumbling over himself and hearing the wings snap sickeningly. He, however, did not feel this, as they stuck out at weird angles for a moment, then floated off as tendrils of fog.

A sigh escaped his dark, velveted lips, and he closed his pale, shining blue eyes. Every tight muscle and tension he held was suddenly released, before he looked up and around at his surroundings. At this point, Caelian noticed a large opening under the roots of the tree, and he could’ve sworn he heard a whisper in the wind as a chilly breeze rustled his obsidian-like, soft mane.

He pushed himself to his hooves at once, shivering at the strange feeling the tree gave him. Looking up, he nearly lost his balance at the quaking and swaying of the branches far above him. He lowered his head slowly, his freckled face scrunching together in a confused and frustrated expression. It felt as if someone was watching him.

Eventually, he found that sense of adventure and curiosity that drew him to the roots, and the cave system within. Besides, going forward was the only way to forget to look back, and Caelian despised the idea of looking back. He entered the caves, his hooves loud on the stone. It echoed all around him, acting as if a million horses were following him. He shivered; it was cold and had never seen the light of day.

The freckled steed continued onward, feeling as if he was only losing himself the further he went. What kind of fool entered an unknown cave system; he’d been blinded by the past he’d wished so hopefully to escape. And it had only led him into a hole, deep underground, where he had no idea if he’d escape or not.

Something is happening! The crack of false-wing bones echoes in the labyrinth beneath the great tree. The seed of Yggdrasil sways every so gently in the eternal winds singing across the entrance to the secret valley, and within, it's steady, lowing moans creeps through every twist and cranny. The ambiance creates a natural unease... something isn't quite right here. Something could be dangerous. But Caelian
is brave, and forward he adventures. The tree can feel it... this island escapee. Can the stallion feel the tree as well? There's a crackle in the air... down the paths, the blue eyed male can see bursts of light. They spark and snap like harsh whips, as if trying to draw his attention.

All things are working for my good

Iridescent wings shimmer and shift in color as the lean beast glided above the lands below. The gentle current playfully tugs at his lengthy mane, tossing the silk to and fro within the winds grasp. Pinched nares open wide to drink in his surrounding scents, lungs expanding and expelling the gathered breath forcefully. Something about this particular area seemed familiar. With a gentle twist of his shoulders the creature banked to the left, flying lower to get a better look at the territory below. Pupiless visionaries narrowed with recognition, its lavender-blue hue shifting a shade darker.

He remembered the tree sitting idly beneath him, laying patiently in wait to welcome another lost individual. His navigation through the bifrost was not necessarily pleasant to say the very least. His endeavor lasted for several days as the hulking tree continuously sapped away at his immortality, creating roadblock after roadblock until he was but a mere mortal. It was only then that he was permitted freedom into the slidr valley. Arching his feathered protrusions, Nevermore prepared himself for landing. Large hooves landed heavily upon the ground followed up by his fores, gripping the grass beneath with lacerating talons.

A heavy plume of lavender colored breath fluttered from his nostrils as he eyed the bifrost. He might have made it out relatively unscathed, but had anyone else come from beyond the mighty roots? The specter's visage lowered as he wandered slowly over to a vast opening. Glowing orbs of sight peered into the expanding darkness, he could see nothing, but what was that sound? Curving talons clicked and scraped upon the stone laden path as the phantom re-entered the bifrost. Audits lifting from his silken mane he tuned into the faint sound of what seemed to be hooves. His leonine tail gave a robust flick as he tucked his wings close to his streamline bodice.

Just how close or far away was he from what he assumed might have been a lost soul? Normally, the stallion chose to speak softly. However, it seemed as if this would be one of those rare occasion where he would need to raise it above his comfort level. Not only that, but if the labyrinth proved to be empty he did not wish to venture too far from the exit. Harken unto thine voice if thou art lost! His voice echoed throughout the halls, carrying his heavy Romanian accent with it. Though loud the creature's voice remained alluring. Daring to travel even further into the light swallowing corridors Nevermore tossed one last glance over his shoulder.

pour salt into the wound and let it bleed
It was not long into Caelian’s underground adventure that something began to happen. An intense burst of static had appeared out of nowhere and crackles down the tunnel from where he stood. His sharp eyes had instantly jumped to their colour and electric noise. They sent bursts of static into the air, whipping out and seeming quite dangerous. Caelian was overly cautious as he approached the orbs of light, his hooves stepping forward slowly, one after another. He nosed his muzzle forward, questioning whether to touch the light or not.

He never got the chance, though. Just before making contact, a voice sounded down the long hallways and reached his ears. His head jerked back and his eyes went wide, at first thinking it was a ghost. That was a silly thought, however, and Caelian turned his body toward the voice. It spoke in an old way, such as from an ancient time. With one last, hesitant glance toward the lights, he followed the voice. He didn’t like leaving the electric pulses, and felt as if one of his heartstrings was punctured as he walked away.

Nearing where the voice had come, Caelian responded. ”Who’s there?” Rounding a corner, he saw the answer to his question. A tall stallion, taller than the freckled one, stood down the passageway. What drew Caelian’s pale eyes were his forearms. Long eagle talons covered in charcoal scales caused him to express the smallest of gasps, surprised by the other for a mere second, before he regained his manners. His eyes found the man’s face, which was also quite unique. Sunken cheeks gave the other equine an eerie look, but Caelian found his face to look quite charming.

”Would you possibly know the exit of this cavern?” Caelian questioned, a slightly shiver sent down his spine. Caves reminded him of damp and weird insects, such as spiders and beetles, or centipedes. He couldn’t even imagine if a giant spider came charging down the hall towards them. At this thought, he scrunched his eyes closed for a moment, before bringing them back up to meet the pale purple ones of the male before him.

Something is happening! Sparks had drawn Caelian through the darkness, alighting his path with the momentary flashes. Deeper and deeper it drew him. But, aid for the lonely traveler. Nevermore was a familiar presence to the Bifrost. It could feel his energy, and could taste the Slidr River Valley cloaking his scent. The crackling of the static dies at their voices, plunging them into an abyssal blackness that consumes them in lingering cool. In this eternal abyss, do they feel the cob webs that hover overhead? Is it spiders crawling down their spines or is it just their imagination. In a succession of flashes, the sparks return, singing some of the thin, young roots of the tree so that the stench of burn wafts. An arc lurches out, snapping Caelian on the rump. The Bifrost grows uneasy with their dallying.

All things are working for my good

Ebon audits rotated carefully as the dark stallion continued his silent march, listening for even the softest of voices. But there, around the bend, he could hear it. The sound of a young voice calling out to him. Placing one talon after the other he crept around the corner of the woven bifrost's corridors, halting once he came upon the other's presence. A soft breath left his nares, something akin to a sigh of relief. Thank goodness his wandering down here again did not end up in vain. Compared to the phantom, the stallion was nothing but a babe and for a fleeting moment his head filled with many questions.

However, now was not the time nor place for such things. Nevermore's gaze skimmed over the freckled face of the boy before parting his lips in speech. Thou hast seen it... The specter uttered, soft plumes of lavender breath faintly illuminating his face as it dissipated. He did not blame the colt for wishing to escape the confines of this accursed place with its wicked magic. A faint pull of his gaunt muscles tilted his visage back in the direction of the exit. Lifting a single scaled fore he used his inky talons to point in the direction he'd come from. Arise and have faith.

His intention was to encourage the boy, in the best way he knew how. That is until vivid lights of raw static flickered and wavered, illuminating the darkness. Moving swiftly the wraith lifted a feathered wing to shield his sensitive eyes, blinking several times until his vision adjusted to the near blinding light. Upon hugging his aerial appendage back to his side he felt it drag a thick blanket of webbing with him. Turn his attention to the limb his brow pinched at the sight of a few small spiders racing along his feathering. Raising his fore he swept the critters back onto the ground, watching them scurry.

A low chortle bubbled within his throat and his visage turned back to the freckled colt. An inkling of surprise coats his features as an arc proceeds to pop the stranger across his hide. It seemed as if they were beginning to over stay their welcome. Come. For thy must seek proper refuge. This is no place to dwell... Nevermore ushered the words for his lips in a mere whisper, pupiless gaze skimming around the cavern. Pinching his nares in response to the scent of singed vegetation he set forward. Lowering his visage and leading the way by backtracking his initial steps.

pour salt into the wound and let it bleed
When something creepy and crawly fell onto Caelian, he froze, his muscles tense and ready to spring. The equine across from him spoke of the exit, saying he had seen it. He also noticed the stallion across from him seemed unaffected by the small things crawling on him, but he seemed to be distracted by a bright light that illuminated his face, shielding it with his wing. Caelian turned his own features towards the glare, scrunching his pale eyes until he was suddenly jolted forward by a sharp crack of lightning against his rump, like an electric whip. He felt the shock go through him, before fading away.

Startled, he trotted forward, but the illuminated spiders made him want to hurry away. He now saw the ceiling, completely covered and sticky with webs. Of course, his worst nightmare had become a reality. Making quick eye contact with his companion in the cave, he took off at a relatively speedy pace. ”I do not know where I am going,” Caelian admitted, giving the other horse the lead. He cast a quick glance behind him, hoping not to see something that would make him regret everything that had brought him to this point in his life. For a split second, a homesickness came over him, but the thought of Atnion quickly faded away. Adventure like this was far better than streets of rich, snobby equines. The smallest of smiles came across Caelian’s face; he was enjoying himself.

Something is happening! A mixture of urgencies cast their hooves to making pace. The Bifrost quiets... for now... the ancient force that gifts this massive sentry life fades for some time. The static and light disappears, leaving them in the abyssal darkness broken only by channels of light broken through the gnarled roots nearest the snow laden fields. But isn't it quiet? Perhaps... too quiet. They can feel it on their pelt before they can see it, and their ears will pick up the low hum before the first light flashes. But an impressive arc jolts behind the pair, singing the grounds just behind the later equine. Caelian and Nevermore best find their exit quickly!

Congratulations! You are now free to exit the Bifrost at your leisure!

All things are working for my good

The monstrosity's gaze skimmed the ceiling taking note of the carpet of webbing that covered the tops above. Remaining indifferent to the insects milling about he focused once more on the boy standing before him. Though he failed to get a word out edgewise, watching as his temporary companion hastily headed down the path, zipping past him. Elongated audits rose to attention as pupiless orbs kept their sight trained on the colt, listening as he spoke. Momentarily he averted his gaze to the bleak lighting filtering through the gnarled roots promising freedom. Keep thy path on the straight and narrow.

He was pleased that the harsh static light vanished and that they were plunged back into darkness. However, he did not particularly like the sound of buzzing growing steadily louder. Tossing a glance behind him the specter witnessed a vivid arc of raw energy singe the area around them. The faint plume of scalded bark causing his lungs to tighten. They had to hurry unless they wanted to be electrocuted to death. Increasing his speed Nevermore lurched himself forward into a quick lope. Sharp talons grasping the floor below, helping to spring him forward. Keeping his wings tucked close to his gaunt sides the phantom kept pace beside the young stallion.

Dropping his head toward the ground to avoid a low hanging root he caught sight of the exit in the distance. His feathered tail whipped with a small feeling of delight as his voice bellowed. Behold brethren, thy freedom draws near. Rejoice. Lifting his head he glanced at the young colt a hint of a grin touching his dark features. Speeding up his lope evolved into a gallop, leaving various debris in his wake. Upon exiting the chasm the beast inhaled a deep breath, exhaling heavily. Welcome, to the other side of victory. Nevermore cawed, praising the boy for his valiant efforts while traversing through the bifrost.

pour salt into the wound and let it bleed
The accursed caves were growing shallow, Caelian could feel it in the air. It seemed as if the tree were talking to them through the motions of the electricity, and when a high arc whizzed through the air, singing the tree and causing the air to fill with a thick, firewood-like smell, Caelian found his ears flattening to his head and he cantered alongside the other stallion.

From the way he spoke, the other sounded as if he was at least 1000 years old, but Caelian did not want to say this aloud. He found the thought rude, and shook it away. When the other said freedom was near, the freckled stallion found himself picking up his pace. He wished so badly to be free of these caves and what fears lay in their labyrinth.

As Caelian burst into the light, he found himself smiling, before he took a glance back into the dark hole they had just escaped, looking for any more signs of any lively sort. Then, he turned his eyes to the one who had aided him, giving a respectful dip of his head. ”I thank you, for I could not have escaped well without your help.” A smile expressed his gratitude, a closed one showing no teeth.
