Welcome to Slidr River Valley, home to the strong, the brave, and the resilient. Challenging the odds surmounting against them, the Houses of equine fight in a power struggle for ultimate control over the Valley. With the Bloodless fading away after the First Great Winter of Three, Fimbulvetr, the Slidr River Valley is in a state of discord as the Houses throw themselves into an arms race for power. From predators to the gods themselves every day ushers in a new obstacle to overcome. Fimbulvetr is a literate intermediate-advanced fantasy horse role-play with a survivalist concept. The environment is designed to work against your characters as they move forward in their journey through the arcana riddled realm of Slidr River Valley. With an immense history and lore, we encourage our members to create locals and "outsiders" alike.

It's always something. A bridge, a catacomb, a courier: each land had its entrances and customs and it would appear this one was no different, save for the tree itself. Isolde regards it with a soft and silent expression, nostrils fluttering in the still-dark air that held her tight in pre-dawn shadow, the edges of her visage clouded by the need to overcome. She doesn't know what lies beyond said tree in the deep belly of its roots: the scents of many mar the doorway, staining it with stories and tales of all those who entered. Would she enter, she wondered? Could she? Of course she could. She was renewed, vigorous, re-purposed -- her visit to Vahan had all but rebirthed her spirit and even in the absence of her love, Isolde at last felt that her life could continue on trajectory.

Beyond that thought, she didn't hesitate. Into the belly of the beast she went, enamored with the shadows and the intricate way the paths weaved themselves. While normally an adventurous beast she now erred on the side of caution, keeping to the more well-lit pathways and taking care with her hooves, treading only where the terrain was most solid and reliable. Her nose yearns and seeks more open air, already tired of the stagnancy and nearly an hour into her journey, Isolde halts in frustration. She's lost, she knows this, but isn't yet ready to consider seeking out help. Instead her bright porcelain eyes attempt to pry themselves through the darkness, penetrating for any sign of movement, or direction.

Silence is our Fate

The mute wasn't sure what drew her back to the giant tree. The one thing she could think of was to see if Andante had been told the truth and there really was no way out, but even then she had believed him. She really didn't need to see for herself the power of the Bifrost. And yet here she was, standing at the roots as if they might open to let her back out. There wasn't a real reason for her to leave if they did, everyone she loved was here, but curiosity held her in place. Ezera really didn't expect for anything to happen so when the roots did end up moving she nearly fell over in surprise.
For a moment she just stood and stared with wide eyes, unsure what to do. The boy that had followed them had seemed convinced that the Bifrost would let no one out and yet here it was, opening. Common sense almost won in telling her not to go in, to just leave, but after a moment her body moved forwards. The memories of her first journey through the underground were not something she wanted to relive but she couldn't help herself, she had to know. A shudder passed along her coat as Ezera rounded a corner and the light from the sun was swallowed up.
After what seemed like more time than it probably had been the unicorn was about to turn around when the soft sound of something softly hitting the stone floors reached her. The voice in her head that wanted her to leave screamed in frustration as she continued forward. She was already there so what was the point of not checking out the sounds? Ezera took her time in approaching, not sure of what she would find and not wanting to just run right into someone. When a figure finally came into view she paused, suddenly cautious and unsure about approaching. One of the last times she had been alone with a stranger it hadn't ended well.
Despite the flickering lights it was easy to see that the stranger was a mare and also a fair amount shorter. She did have a long horn that curved at the end but that didn't bother the mute. As she was looking over the mare her legs were moving forward, bringing her closer. By the time Ezera realized it she was already in sight and there was no point in trying to scramble back into the shadows. Instead she lowered her head in a nod of greeting, not wanting to waste her limited magic on a simple hello.

It was invigorating and almost unsettling all at once to be so far beneath the belly of the earth. She felt disconnected from the rest of the world and yet reconnected all at once, wondering well if and when she made it out the other side if it would feel much like the rebirth she sought. In her eagerness to be absolved of the darkness (she yearned for the Aether to light her way but found the magic muted inside her) Isolde uncharacteristically released a soft nicker at the sound of another's hoof-steps upon the stone, her head swinging towards the noise and bringing with it a rush of mane and gleaming horn. Piercing through the shadows, her eyes could only just make out the outline of another as they made their way in her direction, presumably larger than herself. Instinct drove her to root her hooves, body going rigid, as the other mare shuffled into full eyesight.

The Ludovica woman was met with a splendid brand of silence and a face she found relatively calming in this place. Her scent was of loam and tree and things outside, but most notable was the golden stitching at her mouth. When the other nodded Isolde returned it in time, gently reclining her head in response while taking care to angle her curved scimitar's horn away, as a sign of respect. There was no need to threaten -- not yet. When no words came (and why would they, with a mouth stitched in gold?) Isolde cleared her throat, breaking the silence. "It's my sincerest hope that you can lead us from this place?" Her words are soft, not wanting to echo against the roots and stone walls, and neither is it a demand but a gentler, kinder request. The white mare finds herself drawn to her sudden company, finding solace in her forced silence yet equally soft nature.

Something is happening! It was uncharacteristic of adventures to be so bold and brave beneath the shadows of the Bifrost, but these two ladies - one the mighty tree had met prior, and a new stranger - weren't wasting any amount of time in their own investigations. They crossed paths quite quickly. One may have thought it chance, but one well versed in the Bifrost would know better... It'd led them together, now it would entertain itself with their intelligence and teamwork.

As the two mares touched upon the earliest moments of conversation, the corridors in which they'd traversed to their current path twitched and groaned. Roots slithered from beneath the moist dirt, braiding and plaiting together to obstruct the already trodden paths. But caged they were not. Two more paths revealed themselves, unknotting as the others grew. Two tunnels into the unknown, one to the left, and one to the right. Previous work rendered useless, which way would the two femme take? And where would it lead?

Isolde has entered the Bifrost, and Ezera has come to her aid. Time to navigate your way through to enter the Slidr River Valley!

Silence is our Fate

It was a relief to come upon someone that seemed to have no intention of attacking. Being stuck in such a small space and then being forced to try and protect herself would not have worked out very well. Instead the mare almost appears to relax a bit, which was not a response the unicorn was used to. The majority of those she had come upon since the addition of the thread had been cautious and sometimes even unwilling to stick around. It caused Ezera to wonder what exactly this stranger had seen before to not be wary. Whatever it had been she was glad for it, trying to explain with a limited amount of words would have been a waste of magic.
The question was one easily answered with another simple nod of her head, although if she had been able to speak freely she would have specified that she would try. The mare still didn't know much about the tree, just that it wasn't the best idea to stick around beneath it for very long. It would have been amusing how on point her thoughts were if they weren't the ones becoming stuck. Ezera took a small step forward to get a bit further away from the closing passageway while watching it block their way. Of course it wasn't going to be as easy as just retracing steps.
After the roots had stopped moving the mute turned back to the white mare. They would have to come up with a different plan to get out. And with two ways to choose from it would be a 50/50 chance of getting out. Although both could be a way of escape, but there was no way of knowing that for sure. A soft sigh moved through her mind as she momentarily struggled to find the magic. It was becoming somewhat easier as she worked with it but she still had issues. Way? Ezera hoped that the thought had made it across. It was hard to tell sometimes and she could tell it wasn't the strongest. If someone wasn't listening for it they might not even hear it. She would pick if she had to but it seemed better to ask than to just start moving. Maybe this mare had some sort of idea or a certain way she wished to try.

They mingle among one another, all glances and silence. For the most part Isolde's question was left unanswered but for a single nod of the other mare's head, to which Isolde -- for all her own strength and confidence -- felt great relief. She was ready to be above-ground, away from what could, at any moment, be her grave. As her new companion moved as if to lead her to the beyond, Isolde followed closely; she remains only steps behind, her neck arched and eyes peeled for any other movement or potential danger, wondering all the while at the golden thread that stitched the other mare's mouth shut. It was unlike anything she'd ever seen, and yet nothing worth avoiding all the same.

Their progress was cut remarkably short as the very roots around them began to shift and contort, taking on a life of their own and in her confusion Isolde halted, brandishing the needle-sharp point of her rapier's horn in their general direction. A toss of her head, but the roots never attacked; rather, they merely created an avenue of choice that now lay in their care: left, or right.

She snorted, unable to help herself. Way? The word came like a distant echo in her own mind, spoken as if from far away. Isolde's ears twitched, her porcelain gaze moving to Ezera's own face. She'd heard her, but she wasn't certain how. No matter. "This one." She speaks with great confidence though for her, it's merely a guess. Never one to dally or loiter, Isolde picks the one best traveled (the left) and marches onward, encouraging her company to follow suit with a brush of her muzzle against Ezera's side as she goes. It's a simple touch, wordless, but hurried all the same; she wants out of here, back in the light.

Something is happening! The left! A wise decision. Had they chosen the right, trial and tribulation would have befallen them! While their chosen corridor had sturdy flooring at their hooves, albeit damp from the cool atmosphere, the purchase of the right corridor... well... nasty tumbles would have secured their fate. But a cob-web laced tunnel to the left they chose, one where the light was strangled and the mares were enveloped by a deep darkness. Light filtered through an exit before them, surely spilling them into another corridor filled with decision making, but... what was this? Was it fading?

The tree groaned around them, deep and resonating, something felt in their very bones. The roots weaving through the compact dirt walls began slither, the steady crumble of the sod reminiscent of hissing. Ahead, the first root could be witnessed stretching along the length of their escape, the beginning of it's closure. Better be quick, Ezera and Isolde, it seems the Bifrost is not willing to let you go so easily.

Silence is our Fate

The choice of taking the left path was made so easily that Ezera immediately felt comfortable with it. She was briefly curious about what might lay down the right side but not enough to go check it out. The other mare moved as if she knew exactly where she was going and what might lie ahead. It really did seem like the best option since it looked a little more traveled through despite the cobwebs. She followed almost as confidently with only a slight hesitation in her steps. The soft press of the white mare's muzzle against her coat had helped in a way that she didn't quite understand but that didn't matter, it got her moving.
For a bit it seemed as though they would be fine. The idea of spiders crawling along the walls did filled the mute's mind but it could have been worse. It didn't help when the tunnel went dark and there was no way to see where her hooves were going. She lifted her head a bit to keep from poking the other mare with her horn and just continued to keep moving. A shiver traveled down her spine as the roots began to move yet again, almost in a sense similar to déjà vu. Although this time they didn't block one path to reveal more, they started to block what appeared to be the way out.
Ezera's heart started to pound as she thought of what would happen if they became stuck beneath the tree. She wasn't sure if there would be another way out or if they would have to wait for someone else to come along. Either way there really wasn't any desire to find out and she started to move a bit faster, anxious to be free. Run... The other mare probably knew to do so but she sent the thought over anyway, fear making her persistent.
