I know I'd rather be complacent

Dark ribbons of shadow swept over the young man's frame as he wandered silently down a well worn path. His own cloven hooves stepping into the old prints of other equine that frequented the area. Inky audits pricked forward as he caught the soft hints of faint whispers. Crimson gaze following the general direction he eyed the two and watched as they hushed themselves abruptly, shrinking underneath his stare. Holding their gaze he remained contemplative wondering if he should even take the time to speak to them or not. And if he did, what would he say? A fluttering snort fell from his nares as he decided against it and continued on his path.

Becoming a king was not quite what he expected it to be. He pictured cheering and festivities. Although the denizens around here seemed to cower and tiptoe when he crossed their paths. Was it because he happened to be an outsider, because he was young, his menacing appearance? Truth be told it could have been any number of those combinations. Pausing beside an armored and helmed guard the boy king turned his serpent like gaze upon them. Make sure you take a patrol out with you tonight to check the perimeter. Startled by his sudden appearance the guard nodded his head whilst quickly proceeding to bow Yes, your majesty...

Satisfied with the stallion's response Andante nodded his head and turned to continue on his way, leaving the guard to rise back to his hooves. Dipping back into his realm of thought, he chose to believe that leading couldn't have been as hard as he was making it seem. With his multitude of 'what if' situations it was easy for him to become caught up in the worst of things. However, what he needed was some sound and solid advice, or a slight boost of confidence. Pursing his lips together he decided to go and pay Ezera a visit. The mare had been on this earth far longer than himself and he was sure that she could offer some wisdom to his rambling in the form of simple head shakes.

Transitioning from a slow walk to one of purpose and hurry, the boy trotted off in search of the ebon unicorn. Ezera? Andante called out, loud enough to be heard but not urgently as if he were some strange mad man.

Silence is our Fate

The unicorn hadn't really been expecting anyone to come looking for her. The walks she took to the streams had become a daily routine ever since their arrival to this new place. With the exception of that moment with the odd voice it was a peaceful place. The sound of the water as it ran over the rocks almost lulled her to sleep as she stared down into it. There had been a lot on her mind recently and being surrounded by strangers wasn't helping. She needed a place to see if the magic she had found was real. It was hard to tell when only a couple things got across, plus she really didn't want to waste it on those she didn't know. Without knowing how far she could be from someone she had wanted to get as distant as possible. This set of streams also seemed like they might hold more, if only she could tap into it.
Ezera would have considered bringing someone with her to help with the test but she hadn't been able to find Iracebeth and she didn't want to bother Andante. The mare knew how much pressure he was under from the inhabitants of the land he now had control of. It was a difficult and busy job to be a ruler, but could be rewarding in ways. She had never really gotten any feeling of being rewarded but she had also been distracted the entire time with worry and sorrow. She had never wanted the kind of power that one was given when in that position. Really the only reason she had done it was because no one else had stepped forward. It had been a great learning experience at least.
Ezera dipped a hoof into the water and watched as the ripples traveled across the water and then vanished as they were dragged away. She almost didn't hear her name being called outside of her own head. There were only two equines that would come looking for her and it didn't sound like her daughter. Despite there being no urgency or any indication of worry to be had in Andante's voice the unicorn couldn't help but tense up. She couldn't think of why he might be looking for her unless something had happened. It took a moment to come up with a way to give her location away. Using the hoof she had dipped into the water before she struck a rock, paused for a moment, and then did it again. It probably wasn't the best way to go about it but it was the first thing she had thought of.

I know I'd rather be complacent

The boy's hurried trot slowed down to a quick walk and continued to slow from there until he eventually stopped. Brow pinching together, he paused, listening. He did not have the faintest clue as to where the unicorn might be and yet the moment he thought this he heard a noise. Dark audits rose to meet the second sound striking the air and although it could have been just any old creature fumbling around the darkened forest he assumed that it had to be the ebon mare. Turning around, Andante headed toward the general area of the noise, peering around the trunk of a sturdy tree.

Sure enough the boy king spotted the femme and released a soft sigh of relief. Who knew just how much longer he might have been searching for her had he not been lucky. Taking a few steps forward he dipped his head to her in greeting, choosing to remain silent for a moment. She appeared to be alone, not that he could fault her for it. He too enjoyed his moments of complete solitude. Once he stood before her he cast a glance over his shoulder before proceeding to speak up. Hey, sorry to disturb you. But I was hoping you could give me some advice. He began in a low tone, thinking of just how to word his question.

Turning his crimson gaze toward the north he sighed heavily, sides heaving as he did so. After speaking to one of the residents here I've learned that there is another kingdom neighboring this one...Ambrosius, she called it. He muttered, and although his serpent like gaze seemed to be dismissive at first it soon shifted to a look of spite as he recalled Hel's words. His leonine tail lashed once then twice as he sharply turned his attention away from the direction of the house to the north. It's the same house that Iracebeth stumbled across. However, in so many words Hel told me that both Tryggr and Ambrosius have a rather bloody past, raging war on one another. And some how every time a new Tryggr heir rose to power they would turn up dead or missing.

The young man allowed his gaze to slip over the dark mare. Though there were tendrils of anger in his velvety voice, what stood out most were hints of worry as he remained mostly militant in his stance. Harsh gaze softening to a degree he tipped his visage to one side lightly. So, I am left with two options. Remain silent and hope that Ambrosius believes no one rules Tryggr. Or, strike them first and put an end to all this nonsense if they cannot adhere to reason.

Silence is our Fate

She stopped with the noises when her golden eyes picked up Andante's form. Someday she would have to find a way to alert to her presence besides hitting something. It wasn't the most dignified way and she probably wouldn't have done it if it had been anyone else. But for now it had worked the way it was meant to and she turned away from the water to face the young King. It took her a bit by surprise when he dipped his head down in greeting but she mirrored him with a nod of her own head. Knowing he would speak at some point she just stood and watched him with a curious gaze. The mare wished she could tell him he was in no way disturbing her but that would be a waste of magic that she would need for giving him the advice he asked for.
With a tilt of her head Ezera listened as he spoke. It wasn't all that surprising that they had a kingdom right next door. There were so many places that they hadn't explored and, if she had learned anything from being in Elysium, there could be multiple kingdoms. Being right next to one wasn't what worried her, it was what Andante said about the war. Ice traveled through her veins at the thought of Iracebeth being within a kingdom that had such a problem with their new home. Of course, this had happened before Andante had become king but it still made her want to go find her daughter and be sure everything was okay. This desire was wiped away when she realized what exactly the boy had said.
A fierce protectiveness of the young King rumbled through her at the thought of that happening. He had become a part of their small family on the journey here and that hadn't changed with his new title. Ezera held back from wanting to brush her muzzle against his shoulder when she heard the worry in his voice. She wasn't sure how he would take the physical attempt at comfort and she also didn't want to distract him from his question. Instead the mute remained still as she listened to the options he had come up with. Neither sounded great but the idea of remaining silent was the better of the two. She wished that they knew a diplomatic approach would work because that would be the best option. Avoiding unnecessary bloodshed would be the way she would lean towards and staying quiet would be the way to do that.
Silent... It was frustrating how little she could say, especially when she wanted to give him more than just one word. Maybe if they stayed silent it would give her time to work on the magic and build up to being able to say more and give better advice. But for now the simple word would have to be enough.
